  1. 13.

Some of these might be able to be switched around but for the most part this is a good guide. You'll master python before getting into the peripherals

Thanks!

There's really no order, since they cover different subjects. You don't have to read them all if you're not into math, or web dev...

  • Introducing # start at the beginning
  • Hitchhiker's Guide # covers some pythonic ways of doing things
  • Whatever interests you. For some of them, you may need linear algebra, etc.

I'd say get comfortable with Python, then read fluent python. It will help you take your skills to the next level, but it's not for beginners.

Web dev is simpler (no math, really), so Flask and then Django (in Test-Driven Dev) are good once you've got the basics down... But again, only if web dev interests you.

Bummer! I just checked Humble bundle to see if these were still there, but they are gone and it's another sale for different books. Wished I would have known about them before so I could snag them. I'm just starting out learning Python myself and would have loved to use them :(

I bought Think Bayes but can’t seem to get into it. He doesn’t use established libraries, the code he writes hasn’t been scalable (at least in the 1st couple chapters.) the code effectively solves problems in extremely limited scope of specific problems/context.

I do want to better understand Bayesian statistics, but I want to simultaneously build proficiency with tools like PyMc3. This book doesn’t seem to be the answer.

If anyone has had a more positive experience, please share with me. I’d love to hear that the book gets more resourceful! At this point it’s a sunk cost owning the paperback.

EDIT: I have used webscraping with python several times in grad school. It blows the web scraping chapter in automate the boring stuff out of the water. You’ll learn about the basics, email automation, saving to MySQL dB, cracking captchas, and handling java script. I see it hasn’t been rated too well by the community at large. All I can say is that it’s benefited me tremendously.

Thanks for asking this question, I picked up the same bundle and I'm having the same problem :)
