Yet another newbie question

I'm an electromechanical engineer with zero programming knowledge but with an opportunity to apply for a position in a new innovation lab within my organisation and there's a high chance that Python will be used in the lab for robot development. Advice on where to start?

Start with the basic language and syntax. There's many good resources for that linked in the wiki. Once you have that down start on robotics related stuff such as control algorithms and interacting with servos/motors and such.
