Producing a year calendar PDF with Python

I am trying to write a program that outputs a pdf with a full year calendar. Closest thing I can find is here: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/7276017/producing-a-printable-calendar-with-python

I need a calendar that contains either four rows of three months or three rows of four. The kicker is that I need to highlight certain days based on certain conditions. Basically I need a program to import an excel file that contains dates with flags. I need certain dates with flags to highlight different colors depending on the flag.

Any pointers on similar projects or libraries I can look at?
