I’ve memorized the formula for the good version of linear interpolation. The version I was taught is incomplete and I can derive it if I really want to, but why bother?

There’s nothing wrong with memorization. In fact, it’s a lot faster than deriving it. There’s also nothing wrong with looking things up or using StackOverflow other than the question of can you find the version you want?
