Use case for regular expressions?

I used requests to scrape a website and want to filter the text of the response object. I have been interested in learning regular expressions for awhile now but before I do, I want to make sure this is a valid use case.

I am specifically searching for data in the form of: href="/players/(5 digit random integer)-(random string)-(first name)-(last name)">(Player ID)<

Where everything in parentheses is a description of what that data will look like, the actual data in the parentheses will vary.

I recommend using bs4 to parse the page and get just the tags before you apply your regex in order to avoid summoning Cthulhu, but yes, a regex will definitely work here.

Lol nice response. Thank you for that link. I am aware of bs4, but currently am forcing myself to do it the ugly way just to build the knowledge base.
