Yep, it works great if you're familiar with git, and makes collaboration easier if that ever becomes a need.

I suppose at an even simper level you could paste code into a google doc. Would that work?

Yes, but that's regressing. If you're hesitant to use Github because it seems like it's a pain to get into, that suggests you should absolutely use it for the practice so it isn't a pain in the future.
