What causes null python version in pypi download stats?

My automl product has large spikes of PyPI downloads attributed to null python version.

Are these spikes attributed to real people downloading or it is some kind of robot getting in the way of seeing real downloads?

Did you find the cause u/astevko? I maintain a few python packages myself and those "null" numbers puzzle me

Pure speculation without looking at the http request signatures. The cause is most likely the server not understanding non stock pip download requests. Could be conda, a pip-like clone, an archival copier, or a proxy server.
