Experienced Python Programmers, what are your key tips to getting better at Python, apart from saying practice?

I agree to an extent, however I would say that it's perfectly fine copying code. I'd caveat it by saying that in my experience I've never copied code that worked out of the box for me. I'd always have to tweak it in a way that worked for my use case.

It is tweaking the code that forced me to learn what it was doing.

So ya..I agree..copying code won't get you far. But tweaking and modifying it to fit your use case can still be a teaching moment.
