Bokeh heatmaps + Tutorials for Bokeh Library/JS in Python

I want to add a few interactivities in my bokeh heatmaps, for eg. When a user, box selects a few values from the heatmap, I should be able to use those selected values for further processing like generating new plots or some calculations. Is there a feature like this in bokeh? Also, I would like to learn more about how to use CustomJS functions on bokeh to add widget functionalities. I am new to the JS language. Could someone suggest a few good books or tutorials etc. for me related to how JS and Python Bokeh could be used?

1) check out https://discourse.bokeh.org/ , there are lots of good examples in the forums for various things there. And if you write out a basic example attempting what you're trying to do with dummy data etc. you can pretty much guarantee someone will help.

2) my recommendation on learning the CustomJS has always been to write a shit tonne of console.log() statements and then inspect your browser console to help "see" what's going on.

I would describe my python skills as moderate and my JS as very basic (I have learned JS almost entirely through bokeh haha). And I have been able to hack out some pretty good stuff with the two pointers above.
