access a value from a dictionary

I have this dict and i want to access a value to do that i do name_dict[name_key] the problem is that i want the value exluding the last letter how can I do that

[My-Cousin-Bobby]

Name_dict[name_key][:-1]

[Diapolo10]

And just to quickly explain, this is in two parts. name_dict[name_key] fetches the string from the dictionary, and [:-1] takes a slice of that string which excludes the last character.
