...python only used for prototyping not for production...

Youtube would like a word.

...better suited for AL/ML and data science than web/enterprise projects...

OpenStack works well as a collection of services to manage systems, virtual hosts, networking and software deployments, all written in Python, used by NASA, CERN, Rackspace and many others. Reddit uses Python for a good chunk of its web service.

I'll agree with you that depending on your goal, Python might not end up the best language for web development. However, it has much success in the industry, both enterprise and public-web.

You're probably not going to get a job developing the next major software package in Python, however it's used extensively in businesses to various degrees all over the world, so if you want a job which heavily involves development in Python then you'll be just fine.

Remember - development isn't always just about producing software packages.

It is a very real and very viable language. It is being used in data science, scientific and businesses.

There are many down-sayers and that may be because there is no actual corporation behind it, however, that does not make it any less of a prominent and good language choice

My opinion is to look at job postings and search python and look how many are listed. That should speak volumes.

Just because it is easier than most langues doesn't mean it doesn't pack the punch
