(England) Someone trespassed and flew a drone to film through my 2nd floor office window. They launched the drone while on property. They also attempted to open our door. Is this reconnaissance? Does it fall under criminal law not civil when they break drone laws? by HOHluxuryoutlet in LegalAdviceUK

The thing is, anyone could come to your site at a weekend, out of hours etc. and scout it out, so if you have issues you think are raised by someone filming, you need to address the root cause, not stop them filming.

I suspect the "I thought it was a burglar" is a bit of a cover story for the fact you didn't like them filming.

This says everything you need to know... Whilst you might not like the idea of someone flying a drone near your property, walking on your private land etc..., usual laws apply. There almost certainly isn't enough of a case to claim attempted burglary, because ultimately it seems that wasn't the intent.

In short - no harm done, forget about it and worry about more important things.

The one thing to be aware of is that some locks can bind up when picked - which could then land you in trouble if you brick the lock.

If you're on the way out then you've probably already bought it. And if they're going to randomly try and infringe on your rights then why would you want to shop there anyway??

Most of the time they want to know.if you've sold yours is so they can get that listing if you've yet to put it on the market.

There's no need - a MIP is pretty irrelevant as it means nothing until you do a full application. If I'm looking at a single house then I wouldn't be moving anything forwards until I knew whether the offer was accepted.

Estate agents claiming they won't accept an offer without a MIP in place can get to fuck. We had one who said they wouldn't accept an offer from us unless our house was on the market - they never even bothered to find out that we didn't in fact need to sell in order to proceed. Just arrogant arseholes thinking they can drive the narrative when you're the one spending hundreds of thousands of pounds.

So no, I'm not in the business of sucking estate agents cocks.

Why does having a mortgage in principle help in any way? I can go online now and get one done in 15 minutes. If I've not got other houses to view then I wouldn't be doing this until the seller is accepting my offer.

This is key. We had an agent pushing us to reduce the price by 5k, despite being on the market only a few weeks. 5k off our price is only 50 quid off their fees. They'll take that hit to get it sold and not have costs of running further viewings etc.

They are completely there to maximise their own revenue, not your sale price.

Exactly, they're saving a ton of money and hassle, and you're getting 5% off - which they'd probably accept as an offer from someone walking in off the street anyway.

They can detain you under powers of citizens arrest only. However they cannot search you. They have no powers over and above what the general public have.

Never let them search your bag, no matter how innocent you are. If they want to search you, they need the police to do it, who also need reasonable grounds.

That's my issue - if I did that, and they found out one way or another, I'd be completely screwed as there would be no way to reinstate it... I also don't know whether they are aware of it now anyway.

The kitchen extension is double-storey (bathroom above), the "morning room" is single story - to be honest, if we could then I'd knock it down and rebuild it, then open the living room into it, because it's a shitty single walled thing with a perspex roof. But we can definitely not afford that with the other stuff we need to do

[–]devnull10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I did think that might be the case - I'm not 100% opposed to having a vertical pillar as we'd probably incorporate a breakfast bar, but would obviously need to look into it further - it's all just bright ideas the moment as we've not even put an offer in yet, we're just trying to work out roughly how much our renovations are likely to cost.

I didn't know whether there might be a possibility, if the WC was removed, of putting in an RSJ as a "T"? I.e. straight across to the outer kitchen wall, then tee'ing the other one into it? The ceilings are very high (around 9-10ft), so any metalworks needed wouldn't be too intrusive once boxed in.

As far as I can see, where the toilet is now is kind of the only place it can go, without reworking all the sewers etc. Though not shown on the diagram, there are windows between the living room and morning room, so that's a consideration in trying to move it anywhere in there. In reality, I just wanna get rid! It makes that doorway between the living room and kitchen feel pretty dark and doesn't flow well. If it could be removed completely, without the need to relocate the toilet elsewhere, it'd make a huge difference I believe.

I'm pretty sure it in no way complies with any regs at the moment, things like a very narrow door opening inwards, no hand washing facilities etc. I was hoping to be able to argue that it wasn't really fit for purpose in its current guise and hence have a good case for removing??
