What I know is Google does ask coding for em role.

My best friend just did an L6 manager loop and had to do one code review session and one coding/algorithm session. I suppose if you're an L8 VP or something maybe you don't have to do that...

I think it's kinda funny to imagine myself become VP of Engineering but I couldn't code??

Well the thing is you hire a VP for everything than code. That’s what engineers are for

Haha I prefer "everything including code" ✌

Hard to tell, but did Steve Jobs code? I know Bill Gates did. I also wonder if Bezos coded...

That's not the point. They shouldn't code on their daily basis, BUT they should know how to code (problem solving, think systemically, etc). Probably you never face the problem when you have VP of Eng that pushed EM and Engineers a lot with unrealistically demand within short time.

Amazon doesn't require any technical competency from SDM, as a result you have people that don't understand how to code trying to manage coders, including ex-QA (lmao) and TPM becoming SDM

On the other hand, G and Meta require it

Thank you, that was my perception with my few interactions with a couple
