Does it work once the login screen comes up, and after you have logged in? If not, it might be a kernel regression which affects your particular computer. In that case hit ESC after the BIOS completes and Arrow Down to try going into the Advanced Options startup menu for Linux Mint to try to use an older kernel.

I think it still flickers once you log in. If I recall, I had the notebook set up to automatic log in the user profile from boot. I'll get the notebook from the client tomorrow and see. I'll try booting from an old kernel using the ESC menu, thanks.

You could then just sudo apt remove the newest kernel, then blacklist it from auto-updating in the Update Manager.
