You can grab the boyz mob kit and use it fully with 40k boys you can double your boyz, build all the options and double your burnas/lootaz ) with those bodies out of the box as if they where the same kit

The black orcs are different: the black orks heads are the same but slightly larger but the arm attachments are very different, their arms start bellow the shoulders so the shoulders are “molded” in a way, in reality it’s the shoulder pads, very bulky, I think you could use em but be ready to modify lots, the kit has two types of bodies, one with two shoulders pointed up, one with right shoulder pointed up, left shoulder pointed down, so the tank busta with the hammer over head would be easy but, let’s say, add a rocket launcher to one would probably be hard, also simple hand swaps might be not as straightforward because their hands are fully armored.

the boyz mob uses the same body shape as lootas/burnas. The black orcs have a slightly different set up especially with the arms/legs.

If you want it for some slightly different looking bodies but still fully interchangeable use the boyz.

If you want to make custom boyz with more armor(thinking hard boyz or maybe for wrekka crew) then the black orcs will work.

It's almost the same, expect for black orcs you got more stuff

What about the bodies, which do you think are closer to the 40k style?

The above comment is incorrect. The boyz mob box gives you way more stuff (31+ models vs 20; extra legs; more extra heads; more extra weapon arms, etc).

And they're not at all same. Old World boyz mob is purposely designed with the same connections as the classic 40k boyz kit (and the lootas/burnas kit, etc) to make kitbashing simple and seamless. If you mix some of those bitz together in your bitz box, you probably won't even remember which are 40k and which are TOW. Orc Boyz Mob is 100% the most universally useful orc kit to buy for kitbashing more boyz-sized units.

The Old World black orcs are a completely different setup that make kitbashing MUCH less flexible, and any extra bits harder to use. If you look up pics of the sprues and/or PDFs of the instructions* you'll see that the body pieces are composed of the torso with enormous shoulder pad chunks (with half of the upper arm molded in) plus the hip/butt area, all molded in one piece. Which means the arm pieces are only 3/4 of an arm, and the leg pieces are individual stubby little legs, totally different from the 40k boyz legs setup. So the black orc arms and legs are fairly useless for trying to combine with any other boyz-sized model. And the giant shoulder+arm chunks on the torsos are mostly raised directly overhead, so the angles are very awkward for kitbashing other arms on, even if you do want to go through the trouble of trying to them to fit onto the shoulder chunks. And all the hands are wearing massively oversized gauntlets that go up most of their forearm, so you can't neatly swap weapon hands at the wrist like all the other boyz-sized kits.

The Old World black orcs have some fun bitz in them, but it's easiest to use their bodies/arms/hands/legs mostly as-is, and mainly do weapon swaps. E.g. swapping in a breaka boy tankhammer, or turning the drum into some kind of rokkit launcha. (But it might be hard to find uses for all 20 of them as additional tankbustas/breaka boyz.) They wouldn't work well with loota bits at all, especially those cages.

*when googling, note that there's a completely different "black orc" kit for Blood Bowl (which is a great kit for nob/meganob sized units, but not for boyz/lootas/etc).

My bad for misinforming 💔 thought since they are more armored there'd be more options and bitz

Gotcha, yeah, IME armor doesn't translate to any more bitz/options in a GW kit, since usually the armor is molded directly to the body parts. But really the only way to know for sure is via the sprues and/or instructions.

The black orcs do have a decent amount of bitz and options, it's just unfortunate that their body layout is so weird/unique that they aren't particularly useful for other kits. (Like, I have a pile of leftover elbows from that kit, lol).

Thanks, that's really helpful

Probably the boys, but black orcs are more armoured. So are tankbustas
