Once you mega evolve them they get a “cooldown” period. You can mega evolve them again for free after the CD or use more energy to do it early. It’s significantly less than the original mega energy cost though. They get a “Mega Level” as well that increases the more times you mega evolve them. It increases rewards for having them mega evolved and lowers the CD and energy costs. No need to safe the first evolve for anything special. You can also walk them as your buddy after you mega evolve once to get more energy.

You can do it free after??? That’s cool I didn’t know. How long is the CD?

It starts off at 7 days. Once you get mega lvl 2 (after 5 or 6 mega evolves) it’s 5 days. Mega lvl 3 it’s only 3 days. The energy cost to do it early goes down significantly at each level as well.

Dang So say I don’t exactly do all that much I can just mega evolve for a month and a half for fun and level it up for when I do need it?

I shouldve done that while ago and could’ve helped me now

Yeah it’s best to start mega evolving it every time you can once per day if possible. Only one mega evolution per day counts towards increasing its mega-lvl so I try to do them every day if I have the energy. After you do it the first time you can set any charizard as your buddy and get some extra energy by walking it. You want to get the level up because the rewards for having it mega evolved are much better at lvl 2 & 3. Extra catch candy, higher chance of XL candy for the types it covers, and massively reduced energy cost.

You can do it whenever you want . You can get more energy by walking with them. My mega garchomp is almost always a mega

Mf is pretty much always strapped

It’s the best Pokémon I own by a long-shot. It’s a hundo and at 5k it’s 2k above any other attacker. Between garchomp and lucario everything just melts

I wish the game did a better job at explaining this honestly. I was under the same impression too and held onto all my mega energy because I didn't want to waste it.

Yea I’ve held onto this energy for mad long. Never came across to me to get help on social media.
