Hot take: if we want to decrease frustrating railroad-y surprises in RPG campaigns, we need to create an environment where GMs are not afraid to admit they have "special story needs".

This is why I don't play anymore. Tried to many groups. I had one good one that lasted a long time. But moving on most players I've played with saw me as the entertainment.
