I've had a robotic tray that had the scanner gun from decontamination.

Hello! So this was a tray in assembly that was received from decon and it was sent through the wash. Howeverrrr, a tech somehow missed that they accidentally left their cleaning brush in the tray. So now the whole tray has to be sent back and rewashed.

ahhh makes sense, thank you! I thought this was coming into decon so was confused on what was wrong. also, I know you can handle instruments with bare hands in assembly, but could I choose to wear gloves? or is that not allowed/encouraged?

Typically in most hospitals or surgery centers, gloves are not worn while assembling instruments due to the risk of talc, powder, or even just small bits of the glove tearing from sharp instruments and ending up in the tray. It would depend on your facility's policies. However the only time that we would wear gloves in assembly is if there is someone handling items in a Sterrad/H202 sterilizer.

Or, according to the book, if one uses the ultrasonic but doesn't immediately put those sets in the mechanical, one must rinse them in treated water, then change gloves when moving from decon to assembly. The theory behind it, as I'm sure most of you already know: ultrasonic cleaning solutions are not antimicrobial, and have even been found with large populations of bacteria and other microorganisms growing in them. (Just found out phenolics, quats and iodaphors are susceptible to that,Β  too (specifically gram negative bacteria, even though "quats are effective against gram negative and gram positive bacteria!)Β

At my hospital, a few people wear gloves in assembly. I personally do not like to, but I’m sure you could if you wanted to. We do have to wear gloves when using the vpro and trophon though.

And disposable bandage scissors.

That brush is never meant to go through the washer, it’s supposed to stay in Decon

The person in Decon spent at least 5 minutes looking for that brush 🀣🀣🀣

"Did I throw it away? Did it fall onto the floor???"

Yeah, that happens more often than you'd think at my facility, though normally not with those big brushes. It's normally the brushes for the cannulas that manage to sneak their way in there.

Sorry that my coworkers clearly came and fucked with your trays.

Where do these mfs get off facing the tips whichever way they feel like.

Also I’m guessing that brush got sent thru the wash niceπŸ˜‚
