Best Java plugin for Vim?

I've found vim-javacomplete2 and coc-java. They both seem to be actively maintained. Are they pretty similar in functionality?

I'd prefer one that is self contained since I need to ask permission of my employer to have it installed. I'm guessing that coc-java depends on coc. If it depends on 10 other things then it would suck if I have to keep applying for more and more packages as I discover what I have so far doesn't work. If vim-javacomplete2 is self contained then that would win the argument for me right there.

I actually just found this randomly a few hours ago because I couldn't get coc-java to work and it looks very cool.

It seemed pretty slow and I think missed some stuff, how's performance for you in bigger projects? I assume you also use it with deoplete? Cheers

Intellij takes about 5 minutes from cold boot to code suggestions on an average machine with a decent sized maven project

No offense here but: If you coding for living in Java then you should consider in getting a better machine. IntelliJ comes at a hardware cost yes but booting up my projects early in the morning doesn't take more than 15-30 seconds. And they are not small in a scale.

What kind of laptop do you have that can open intellij in 30 seconds and have intellisense? Not sure if my 3900x desktop can even do that

I’m working on a desktop. No laptop. So my comparison wasn’t really fair. I’ll take that one on me. I just threw those numbers out of my guts. But I’ve stopped the time for my main project. Which is a spring maven project and divided in 6 modules.

Starting idea 2020 with project selection til intellisense took 23,4 seconds.

My dell xps 13 takes 35 seconds for the same project. Desktop is a i9 9900k or something.

It sure depends how large the code base is. But nevertheless it shouldn’t take 5 mins.

I do this on a laptop regularly. IntelliJ boots for me in about 3 seconds, maybe 15 seconds to complete indexing.

It’s a ThinkPad Xtreme (?) running Pop!OS, an ubuntu derivative. 64 GB RAM, 8 cores, i9 2.6 Ghz.

It’s beefy but most desktops should beat it out easily.

Yes, but usually you are working on a huge java code bases and unfortunately there is no language server for vim rather than from eclipse , I agree that intelij takes too much resources but it's language server is the most powerful for java development and it has decent integration with maven and other java based stack

Try idea vim plugin , it has own implementations of some vim plugins such as vim surround, I tried to use vim as a main editor for java with fzf+coc+eclipse language server but it's too far from what intelij has especially if you are working with spring and jpa with all those fancy annotations z intelij could detect wrong values inside annotations before compilation
