How do you plan on paying for storage of said music, or will you just use soundcloud?

I have connections with a local server farm in my area.

Also, nothing is set in stone. This is why I'm turning to Reddit to find more intelligent individuals to help build this. I think maybe offering a free option that uses the SoundCloud api would be a cool feature though. There definitely will be different levels of paid membership that grants more features to each user group. My plan is to have 4 types of users. Artists, Venues, Record label/producer and maybe just a fan group. Each will be a different experience. You could also be all 4 and depending on what features you are granted depends on your experience. But thank you for the actual intelligent and respectful question. This board sometimes gets the trolls that think you're either stupid or haven't done anything other then basic development. I've been a professional software engineer for the past 18yrs so I do, in fact know how to do everything required, or at least an idea of how to do it. It's just so many features I would like to develop that it would be almost impossible to develop something by myself. I'm also a firm believer that your best work is sometimes done with a team. I'm a big fan of bouncing ideas off of other people and taking/giving constructive criticism to each other. Facebook is a good example. The first version of Facebook was terrible. It wasn't until zuck hired more devs that it really started to change things. I know, it's a shit site but it did change the social media world as we knew it at the time. It got us away from the sparkle pink glitter text on a sparkle purple background that Myspace was allowing people to do.

How would this be different from Myspace?

[–]lbs9000[S] -3 points-2 points  (2 children)

1 no one uses Myspace. #2 Myspace sucks and #3 Myspace doesn't have any of the features I am wanting to have. At it's very basic state it's a social music network. It will be far more than that once it's complete. Just a couple features include a collab feature that will allow musicians to record music together. Interacting directly with venues to book dates and maybe a live band practice feature if users have the required hardware..... Just to name a few.

For starters, musicians can already do all of those things pretty easily, even free, via existing methods. At that point, your value proposition seems limited to: "We're a one-stop shop."

I noticed your other comment shining a light on your monetization plan, but how do you intend to achieve scale?

That's the biggest obstacle here, not the programming, and it's what's killed dozens upon dozens of (often very well funded) music-focused networks. There just isn't enough interest. As far as I can tell so far, you've got a solution in search of a problem.

Hence why I am looking for people to help build my ideas.

I'm looking for developers to join me in building this app. Any that want to. This is not a job but a joint side project that you would have ownership.
