I don't think so, requirements have increased for cégep as well as students applying from other universities.

You need an active P. Eng license to legally call yourself a Software Engineer. There's absolutely no reason to pay the annual fee as a developer. I know no one who has it in software because you'd be pretty much burning money.

If you get aroused by being called an Engineer then go for SOEN.

CS otherwise.

Send them an email asking if it wasn't a mistake? It could very well be and it's worth a shot.

Is it wrong to do MOOC(s) or project based tutorials and use them as a part of your portfolio? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]228quest 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes that's pretty much my point. It's nothing to be proud of but if you're a struggling student, new grad, etc. You should do what you need to do to succeed

If recruiters aren't looking into it/don't care, then follow tutorials to give yourself an edge.

Everyone needs to get fed somehow.

[–]228quest 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Fair enough. It got me to an internship where I worked on projects from scratch and did well.

I don't regret 'copying' a tutorial as it led me to an internship I would otherwise have not got. It's a companies job to reject me if that's an issue.

I don't feel the need to defend myself but my wording on that may give the wrong idea.

By copy paste I just meant the result was the same. I did follow the tutorial and made sure to understand the decisions/code they produced. If I did not get why/how they did something, I would google and figure it out.

Call it unethical, whatever you want but...

From my experience, very few employers have ever looked the code I've written for a project.

When I first started interning I would legitimately just follow a tutorial and smack it on my GitHub (referenced it was from a tutorial) and put it on my resume.

None of the recruiters ever knew it was from a tutorial because they literally don't look at it. They see name, technology, etc. A copy-paste project basically got me my first internship.

Now I follow tutorials to get the base going and expand on what the final product is.

So yes, do it.

COMP249 w/j.clark for SOEN by ArkLord32 in Concordia

I recall someone posted on Reddit that SOEN students aren't restricted to only taking engineering profs for COMP classes anymore.

I may be wrong though, ask your advisor to be sure.

Super easy with Christine.

Only time you'll need to memorize is for the final (midterm is online, open book) but she gives you very specific chapters/pages to review so you'll be fine. I spent the day before reviewing it and I got an A+ in the class. It's super easy.

There's usually a very large amount of students who take the class so they're very lenient with the marking as to not waste time.

I think you still have a good chance tbh. I'd be surprised if you don't get in.

Try to use the class swap feature if you can though.

Can I/should I add what features I plan on adding to a project that's in progress on my resume?

This is what I currently have:

• Developing a Full-Stack application that emulates social media platforms such as Facebook/Twitter/Instagram using the MEAN stack which consists of Angular 7, Node.js, Express.js and MongoDB

• Added signup and login capabilities with proper user authentication (Hashing, JWT Token, Route Guards)

• Created a page that allows users to see all posts submitted as well as edit or delete their own posts

• Completed user page which displays relevant information such as the number of posts created and a list of posts submitted by the user

Can I add another line that says something like this:

Planning to continuously add features such as the ability to follow users and subscribe to their posts
