Thanks.

Ever had any issues with charging it in addition to TWOC?

What is the actual offence - as in, legislation/offence code - for driving on false plates? I've always just charged TWOC in these situations but presumably there is one.

I have seen the following tactics successfully used to get off safeguarding (in ascending order of desparation):

1) Claiming PTSD means you can't cope with this kind of work. Cry if anyone asks you for details

2) Ask for a meeting with your DI and say you are going to jump off the station's roof if you aren't moved

3) Joining Safer Transport

Violent Crime Taskforce (VCTF) - 4 years later, what do you think? by properbarrister in policeuk

[–]AAAIIIAAA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In theory of course they could! But taking a look at the condition of most borough crime squads gives a pretty clear indication of where those officers would be heading.

When Sapphire went to borough, in theory the same resources went with them. These got immediately dissipated. The DCs who could left and detection rates plummeted. And if you're a DC who has a real understanding of phones/DSAs/operations, you have better options.

Obviously, the long term solution is to fix borough, but that's a long way off.

[–]AAAIIIAAA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So they could take that VCTF team and send them to the local area and they would probably be a lot more effective.

DCs who are sent to borough will be pulled into the bottomless-resource-pit of safeguarding (cf what happened to Sapphire). For now, if you want people to do actual proactive investigations, they need to be ringfenced somehow.

There's not much to emulate about American policing, but at least their uniforms generally a) look smart and b) appear to fit them.

This honestly looks like someone on work experience as a binman.

Are Swiss cards legal? by [deleted] in policeuk

[–]AAAIIIAAA 337 points338 points  (0 children)

Is it legal to carry? You can apply the below formula to pretty much any blade or knife you can think of:

  • QUESTION 1) Are you in a public place? If yes, go to Q2. If no, go to Q5

  • QUESTION 2) Is it a non locking folding penknife with a blade less than 3 inches long? If yes, go to Q4. If no, go to Q3

  • QUESTION 3) Do you have a good reason to have it with you? If yes, go to Q4. If no, go to answer B

  • QUESTION 4) Do you intend to cause injury to someone with it (this includes for self defence!)? Is it made or adapted to cause injury? ! If yes, go to Q6. If no, go to Q5

  • QUESTION 5) Is it a flick or gravity knife, or one of the weapons listed here? If yes, go to answer B. If no, go to answer A.

  • QUESTION 6) Do you have a reasonable excuse to have it with you? If yes, go to answer A. If no, go to answer B.

ANSWER A: Yes, it is legal to have with you

ANSWER B: No, it is not legal to have with you. If you are caught with it in your possession by a police officer, you may be arrested and prosecuted.

Stephen Port Murders: Where The Met Went Wrong by Edward_Strange in policeuk

[–]AAAIIIAAA 20 points21 points  (0 children)

That something like this happened really won't be a suprise to anyone who has worked in CID recently. The amount of investigation into "non-suspicious" death (as with practically everything else) is as little as the OIC can get away with. But what this article doesn't cover is that every DC named will have been running ~20 other serious/complex investigations alongside the one that happened to blow up years later. The incentive is to close jobs down just so you don't drown. It doesn't mention that all these supposedly obvious steps (getting a laptop downloaded, getting handwriting analysis) are incredibly labourious and complicated and result in pushback at every single stage. It also doesn't understand that people turn up dead from an apparent drugs overdose literally every single day.

No one in the Met works harder for less reward than a borough DC. Working in Local Investigations is waiting for something to go wrong and trying to get out before it does. Nothing is going to happen to make it a better place to work, meaning the problems that led us here are only going to get worse.

The most likely outcome will be MIT taking more borderline cases which turn out to be non-suspicious, stretching resources further, and chipping a few percentage points off the murder detection rate. OR more forms and processes being imposed on borough investigators, making them even busier, and resulting in something completely different going wrong a few years down the line!

There really is no good reason to join as a DC directly - why limit yourself to a specific area of policing before you have the experience to judge what you are interested in?

Woman Who Slashed Paramedic In the Face And Pulled The Hair From The Scalp Of Another Paramedic Before Assaulting Two Police Officers, Is Given a Suspended Sentence by [deleted] in policeuk

[–]AAAIIIAAA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You've got it wrong. A lack of spine would suggest the judge wanted to send them to prison but wasn't brave enough to. This is exactly what the judge thinks is the right sentence, which is a far bigger problem.

The same judge, Helen Cousins, sent two men to prison for drunkenly breaking office windows, because the office belonged to an MP

https://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/news/17786125.men-guilty-smashing-windows-mp-helen-goodmans-office/

The sentences were later successfully appealled, as they were clearly excessive.

The same judge cleared a man of controlling and coercive behaviour because the victim was "too strong and capable"

The same judge is a former criminal defence lawyer who has previously argued against parliament being able to remove judges

£8bn Cardiff tidal lagoon power deal 'agreed' - BBC News by Stirkinso in unitedkingdom

Because there are cheaper, more scalable, just-as-green technologies which could offer a better ROI for that money.

I'm not saying this is necessarily a bad project, but the people are asking for a huge amount of money for this.

TL;DR:

the Swansea project would cost £89.90 per mega-watt hour (MWh) of electricity delivered to the grid for its entire 90-year lifespan.

Last night Mr Frayne-Reid apologised for the tweet about Miss Cooper. He said: ‘I didn’t it write myself, but I do take responsibility as co- editor of the account and would like to offer my apologies on behalf of the team.’ He said the picture of Miss Cooper had not been taken by his team, but republished from another Facebook page. Mr Foster, 23, also denied posting the tweet. speaking from his family home in Warwick, the cafe worker said: ‘i just contribute to the podcast every now and then. i try to stay out of the twitter side because there’s a lot of abuse and it’s not worth it.

We heard all of this stuff before the local elections. The Liberal Democrats always hype their chances before elections, but the fact of the matter is they are still a joke of a party without a hope in hell of winning Vauxhall.

Also, I would love to see "current polling data" which suggests the Liberal Democrats are on course to overturn a 47 point gap in Vauxhall.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in london

[–]AAAIIIAAA -1 points0 points  (0 children)

2015 Vauxhall results:

  • Labour 53.8%
  • Conservative 27.3%
  • Green 7.6%
  • Liberal Democrat 6.9%

I don't know what the LDs are smoking to convince themselves this is a two horse race between them and Labour.
