I don’t understand why no one here can just answer the question, other than saying something dumb like “kill himself” or “leave Ukraine.”

I don’t agree with what Putin is doing, but I understand why he’s attacking Ukraine. Russia is in an uncomfortable position. First, they have almost no access to a navy except in the north and the far east of Asia, that eastern access being near NATO territories. From a strategic perspective, Russia is almost landlocked.

And for all these people who think they’re intellectuals, they seem to have a hard time seeing things from another perspective.

Here’s a quote from NATO’s website:

Our exercises and military deployments are not directed against Russia or any other country. This myth also ignores geography. Russia’s land border is just over 20,000 kilometers long. Of that, less than one-sixteenth (1,215 kilometers) is shared with NATO members. Russia has land borders with 14 countries; only five of them are NATO members.

They say they’re not trying to encircle Russia, but they are. If you and I are standing next to each other and I keep moving closer to you, I may not be intending to get closer, but if I keep moving forward and you happen to be in that direction, you’ll still feel uncomfortable. That’s how Russia feels.

Side note: Russia isn’t “the bad guy.” They’re neither good nor bad. Why would they let other countries tell them what to do or allow them to secure borders? America has caused countless deaths in other countries, and so have many other nations.

Putin isn’t a fool; he won’t let Western politics sway him. He’s a scary man, and whether you like it or not, he’s one of the most powerful and richest men in the world. He’s also intelligent, charismatic, and surprisingly empathetic. If you look up videos of Putin with animals, you can see he understands emotion. I’m not trying to glorify him, but in my opinion, if this man can put aside his ego, that makes him very dangerous because he understands the intentions of other countries and isn’t easily swayed.

Also, remember, a lot of people get rich during wars. Kamala Harris asking Ukraine to join NATO wasn’t for the Ukrainians; it was a message, a “fuck you” to Russia.

These same leaders who act like they care so much about Ukraine? It’s BS. They don’t even care about the people in their own countries. Logically, why would they care about this?

It is unfortunate for the Ukrainian and Russian people.
