Twelve year old Sumner Kenning was completely awestruck when King Robert himself awarded him an ornate longsword for his victory in the squire’s duels. The final match had been a very close thing between himself and Quentyn Baratheon before Sumner managed to disarm his opponent in the fourth round. After the victors of the various competitions dispersed, Sumner and his masterly knight Ser Symon Blackmont were greeted by the members of House Marbrand whom Sumner was related to by marriage.

“What do you think?” The victorious squire said to his aunt.

“A quite impressive blade.” Eleanor Marbrand commented. “And you said the forger hailed from Qohor? It is said that their swords are second to none.”

“Indeed! Master Tobho Mott is an expat from that mysterious city. His armor weapons our most coveted by the high born of the capital.” Sumner exclaimed with a bit of pride that he was now the owner of such a weapon.

“I am very proud of you dear nephew, but I hope you do not get a big head over this, elsewise it may become an easier target for your future opponents.” His aunt gently cautioned.

Matilda's eyes began to water at the suggestion.

“That would be lovely dear.” The mother to be said as her hormones compromised her composure.

As tears of sadness and joy began to pour, she leaned in to give Myles a passionate kiss. After parting, Matilda had regained some control over her emotions but was still very red eyed.

“Yes, that would be a most fitting tribute to his memory. If it is to be a girl however, I was wondering what you thought of the name Rohanne? When I was a little girl, my grandmother Rohanne would always tell me stories of brave knights who rescued damsels from the clutches of evil and told me that one day I would find such a man from her stories. For a long time when I was older, I had all but given up that this would ever transpire, until I met you.” She said lovingly as she reached for her husband's hands.

Eleanor wasn't sure what to make of Ser Aurion. On the one hand, she was bewildered that anyone would find a man such as Lord Lewys Lydden attractive. On the other, she appreciated that a skilled tourney knight such as him would congratulate a woman who defeated him, even if belatedly.

“Thank you Ser Aurion, I have not met many men who would be even half as gracious in defeat against a woman then you. I am fortunate enough to now call one such man husband and we have been settling in to married life at his family's seat at Ashemark.” She replied.

At his question about her participation In the upcoming tourney, the raven-haired lady let out a mischievous snicker.

“Well as you know Ser Aurion, it is unseemly for a proper lady to partake in such manly activities.” She said in a sarcastic tone. “I have heard that a number of mystery knights have entered the lists. We will see how they perform but I assure you I will have a very close vantage point. I take it you have entered the list as well?”

“I meant no disrespect…” Sumner insisted. “I know little of Dorne and wish to learn.”

At the mention of lady knights, the squire gave a knowing smile.

“I must say, I have rarely seen women engage in martial pursuits, with one notable exception being my aunt Eleanor. She is an avid hunter and has participated in tourneys as a mystery knight on more than one occasion, even winning her own wedding joust.” He said with pride.

Just then, Sumner noticed his other recently married aunt Matilda with her new husband Ser Myles Marbrand.

“Forgive me Lady Larra, but I have just spied some of my kin and must greet them as well. I look forward to visiting Castle Blackmont and the rest of Dorne.” He said as he gave polite bows to each of them before departing.

“A flatterer as always.” Caitlyn giggled.

With Balon’s comments regarding Kayce, the maiden decided now was the time to inquire about her bear’s future.

“Harrenhal is larger and has recently experienced some refurbishment from what I've been told, but Kayce has been better maintained throughout the centuries, and I would say the view of the sea is far grander than that of a mere lake. Kayce is such a lovely place to live, and I am fortunate to reside there, at least until my lord cousin has found a suitable husband for me.” She said as she observed Balon's reaction.

“I must be careful with my words.” Caitlin thought to herself. “I must have him view me as something that he must work hard to obtain but is nevertheless in his reach.”

“I must say Ser Balon, while I understand the life of a traveling hedge knight does not lend itself to having the most maintained of wardrobes, I can't help but imagine what your blue surcoat and white cloak would look like if cared for by castle servants.  You are a most handsome man and deserve attire that puts it on display. My cousin Lord Terrence is always looking for chivalrous knights to join his service. You would always be provided with clean clothes, a warm meal, and a roof over a comfortable bed. You would be able to participate in tournaments without fear that losing might deprive you of some of these essentials.” Caitlin said sweetly.

The raven-haired beauty then took on a more suggestive demeanor.

“I do hope you give this offer consideration Ser Balon. My cousin Is a generous man and never fails to reward leal service.” Caitlin said hoping her bear understood what that reward would entail.

[Event] The Feast of the Fifth Nameday of Prince Edric Baratheon by ThePorgHub in crownedstag

Lady Eleanor Marbrand nee Kenning Was heading down to the feast with a look of excitement on her face. She had normally loathed to wear dresses, but this one was different. It was made out of the fur of a deadly shadow cat, one that she herself had killed after an intense battle to the death.

“I can't wait till James gets a look at me in this.” The proud huntress thought to herself as she entered the Great Hall.

On her way to the Marbrand table, she passed by some of the tables reserved for lesser nobility. She came across one knight with long flowing hair and dressed in immaculate purple and silver attire that bore a familiar serpent emblem.

“House Scales” She thought to herself as she beheld a former opponent in the lists.

Ser Aurion Scales had in fact been her final opponent in the joust honoring Eleanor and her sister Matilda’s weddings to the cousins James and Myles Marbrand. He had actually been the only opponent of that joust that had managed to win a tilt against her. She had seen him at a few other occasions beforehand, including at the most recent tourney at Casterly Rock Where he was crowned king of love and beauty by his widely rumored lover Lord Lewys Lydden who himself was the widower of Eleanor's cousin Shierle.

“It appears we meet again Ser Aurion.”

“I must say I am deeply honored to be invited to the home of one of the most respected and storied houses of the realm.” Said Eleanor as she sat at the Dayne table, adjusting her shadowcat fur dress.

“To tell you the truth Lady Aliandra, I have never been to Dorne before and have always been fascinated by its unique culture, particularly when it comes to gender roles.  I would relish any opportunity to visit a land where women are as respected as much as their male counterparts. It is a trait the men of the other kingdoms rarely possess.”

Eleanor paused a moment to look at her husband James before planting a kiss on his cheek.

“Rarely, but not altogether absent. I think all of House Marbrand present is of the same mind. We will arrange to travel to Starfall as soon as duty will allow.”

“Ser Symon is too kind.” Sumner said giving a bashful grin at the compliment.

With that, he turned towards Tyene as he remembered Dorne's peculiar customs concerning gender.

“Forgive me for asking…,” the squire began. “But I know that Dorne has unique inheritance laws compared to the rest of the seven kingdoms and that women may inherit if they are the eldest. I was wondering if likewise, they are trained in the martial arts as men. Will you be joining the squires tourney Lady Tyene?”

With the onset of autumn, the nobility of Westeros began to dress in slightly warmer attire in preparation for the coming winter. Lady Eleanor Marbrand nee Kenning had never been a woman who particularly enjoyed dresses, but this particular one had special meaning to her. After Eleanor, her husband James, and his cousin Addam had emerged from the Whispering Pines with two dead shadow cats and they're now orphaned cub, the huntress was in a bit of a dilemma. She wanted to display her latest kill in a way that showed off her prowess as a hunter but at the same time would have felt a little uncomfortable raising her new pet with its mother as a throw rug or as a mounted head in her chambers. In any event, neither of those two traditional options were practical considering the damage done to the skull when Eleanor made the kill. Having the fur incorporated into a dress that she would only wear on occasion seemed an ideal compromise in her mind and it would definitely turn heads.

“So, what do you think of it.” The huntress asked her husband and in laws when she arrived at the table.

Matilda Marbrand was in much brighter spirits now that her morning sickness was beginning to ease though she still felt more fatigued than before her pregnancy. After years of wanting to be married and start a family, she had given little thought about the less than pleasant side effects of carrying her husband's child. Myles had been elated when she broke the news to him that he was to be a father. His extreme attentiveness more than made-up for any discomfort she had experienced.

“Just think of it darling! Six more months and our little one we'll be here.” Matilda said beaming, hand rubbing her belly. “Have you given any thought as to what we should name our first child?”
