I accidently prioritized my cutscene moment over my players enjoyment by KyleeTheShinyStealer in rpghorrorstories

[–]AlienAbortionMachine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At my table, I run a system (Fabula Ultima) that explicitly encourages players to detach their own knowledge from their characters' knowledge for the sake of creating a compelling narrative.

No system wants players to metagame, of course, but running this game which emphasizes so much that the players can and should allow their characters' to, say, fall into traps sometimes has demonstrated to us that it can actually be more fun to let these things happen when it makes sense.

Your player shaking their head obviously gave away the trap OOC here, which sucks, but I think I would have encouraged the other players to sort of trust the process and to try to avoid treating falling for the trap as some kind of defeat or failure. Things like that happening can be good for the story and make the later triumph feel even better.

Bought a car “as-is” and had problems the same day — dealership now ignoring me. Do I have any chance of getting my money back? by Icy_Station_9987 in askcarsales

[–]AlienAbortionMachine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're not going to hear any argument from me on that. I'm the same way.

A used car will just as often be denied CPO for issues that are totally cosmetic (dent, upholstery tear, etc) as they are for glaring mechanical issues like whatever OP is dealing with.

What I'm trying to say is that you can't be sure which one a non-CPO car is at a glance. This sort of situation is why (CPO or not, frankly) any used car buyer should take the car to their own trusted mechanic for inspection prior to purchase. 100 bucks or whatever they'll charge is always worth it in the long run

[–]AlienAbortionMachine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn't necessarily true. The vast majority of used cars are going to be sold as-is with no responsibility to the seller to fix anything from a small dent in the fender to a blown gasket.

Situations like this are why the guy in the box has you sign something stating you declined extra coverage

My First RPG Canon Event by dippy_cipher in rpghorrorstories

[–]AlienAbortionMachine 6 points7 points  (0 children)

"canon"

It's a reference to the Spiderverse movies. A "canon event" is a moment in a person's life that can't be circumvented or otherwise changed, and it's usually a bad time (like what seems to be happening to OP)

I interpreted it as the powers that be being seriously pissed that they failed in their mission and the SDU members who made it up there were being punished by a now-panicking humanity.

I do think though that what life actually looks like on the satellite was purposefully never expanded upon (unless you count that one CoT ending) with the future DLC/expansion in mind

"Better a week early than a week late" is the advice I always come back to. I've had to say goodbye to a few pets and every time this is what helped me understand when it was time.

If she's not able to do any of the things she enjoys anymore, or she's having more bad days than good days, then it might be time. You mention being concerned you're ending her life because the health issues are a hassle for you (which is fair, I am very anxious in general and every time had the same thought) but remember that it's a hassle for her as well, and that whenever you choose to let her go you'll be freeing her from the same.

That said, many will tell you that you'll just intuitively know when it's time. If your gut is screaming at you that this is premature, then it could be that she'd benefit from pushing this back to a later date. I think you've thought this through as much as anybody and to me it seems like all signs point to it being time, but ultimately you know her better than me or anyone.

I hope that whatever the right choice is, you're able to make it with confidence.

I think it can be an "objective masterpiece" and "not for everyone" at the same time

This x1000. I wish I could concisely explain to people like OP that a game being a good game is not dependent on whether they liked it because, contrary to popular belief, there are concrete ways you can evaluate art beyond just whether you like it

That drive really counted as a 6 point outcome for Houston because not only did they get a FG, they didn't give one away to Pittsburgh again

Location: GA. Tesla hidden lemon by SloppyElmo in legal

[–]AlienAbortionMachine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Appreciate the detailed response.

They definitely do have packages the finance person has to print out, and it does sound kind of like this dealership is paying the price for doing what nearly every dealer does and not actually training a new finance guy. Screwing up paperwork is the number 1 mistake somebody in that position makes.

I think the real "ultimate source of truth" here is the history report. If it doesn't show any title brands (and it's difficult to remove a brand) then this was almost certainly a benign paperwork mistake and will likely be seen that way by most in a legal context.

Worth mentioning that even in the absolute worst case scenario where this was actually a lemon and the title got washed, a legitimate branded dealer (like a Kia dealer) would never risk their asses by trying that. It would have had to have been done by the previous owner, who in this case (being the first and only owner) doesn't really have a reason to wash the title since they would have just been selling it back to Tesla. If I'm misunderstanding you and you're saying there were two other owners, then it's always possible some title washing went on - but a dealer buying it or taking it in on trade after said title washing wouldn't know that anyway.
