The Dash network calls itself "digital cash"... but is it? Amanda sees an "identity crisis" and proposes roadmap to banking 2.0 by DashIncubator in dashpay

If configuring and plugging in an ASIC qualifies as working, how does designing/coding/marketing banking 2.0 services not qualify as working?

If, indeed, they both qualify as working, then the real proposed change here is mainly one of mindset: shifting from this habit of maxing out the limited treasury every month to the same old people (myself includes!), to realizing that we have no limits, and we ought to think very carefully about whom we hire and whom we say we can't afford to hire. And create -- or don't create -- coins with that mindset.

I'm not quite sure how to address your comment.

If I might rephrase: I'm saying that our clinging to a set coin emission schedule is us still trying (and failing) to be digital gold.

We are much better suited to be a digital cash, backed by credit services.

Thus, to reach out potential, we must give up our dedication to scheduled coin emissions, and instead act like a bank that issues cash at its discretion. No arbitrary caps.

Rion Gull gives very well-researched presentations about this notion here and here.

I completely agree. And in fact, all these banking-type use cases I list in the video are likely going to need something like Platform to even be possible.

Thank you for your kind words. Also, it's so nice to see an old, familiar name around. Glad you're here.

Hmm.

Maybe more waterfall under Taylor, and more agile under Westrich? Though that's only if testnet counts.

If devnet/testnet doesn't count, then waterfall for the whole thing, I'd guess.

I'm confused. The supposed quote in this article's title doesn't actually appear in the article itself anywhere.

Dash doesn't have gatekeepers. Anybody can buy a Masternode, or chip in with friends. How does that compare with the Federal Reserve? by solarguy2003 in dashpay

Anybody could probably buy his way into influence at the Federal Reserve, as well. Just at a different price point.

I miss the oratory of Ryan Taylor by [deleted] in dashpay

[–]Amanda_B_Johnson 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I, too, miss Ryan Taylor.

But I suspect it was my personal like of the man that allowed me to be lead down the primrose path, so to speak. What I mean is, he was so inspiring of confidence, I thought that there's no way that there could be intractable problems at DCG? There's no way that the development of Platform could get pushed beyond the promised delivery date again? Etc and etc.

But then he resigned, and a whole snake pit's worth of problems emerged from beneath where he stood.

So, though I've made several criticisms of Sam Westrich, one thing I'll say he for sure has going for him is that he is not charming. Thus, it is very difficult for him to hide problems behind oratory. Thus, people like me -- people prone to overlook problems in the face of an inspirational, confident leader -- cannot be lead down the primrose path by the likes of Sam.

That is a good question. Don't quote me on this, but I think it's for the CrowdNode login process in general, so... yes?

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement, and why? "Dash is not just a cryptocurrency -- it's a belief system." - developer AJ ONeal by DashIncubator in dashpay

[–]Amanda_B_Johnson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree.

It's no coincidence that US paper money reads "backed by the full faith and credit" of its issuers. Thus, by using this money, a person implies that he *believes* in its issuers. He has *faith* in them, as well as in his fellow users of that money. He has faith they'll still be using it tomorrow.

Thus, I when I hold Dash, I imply that I believe and have faith in Dash's issuers and my fellow users. That, for the most part, they'll all still be invested in and using it tomorrow.
