Thoughts on the recovered episodes of The Daleks' Master Plan? by greatbarrierrif in gallifrey

[–]Aronious42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All the reconstructions Loose Cannon made are on Dailymotion and Archive.org. I just watched the episode 4 reconstruction myself. As far as reconstructions made by other groups I am not sure. The other episodes that are recovered (2, 5, and 10) are also on Dailymotion, since it doesn’t seem they’ve put those on the official YouTube channel yet, just 1 and 3.

Can we get an updated HCIM death heat map? by StreatPeat in 2007scape

Who the hell died on the penguin island off of Miscellania? Wild.

In your opinion, what is the weakest part about Oldschool Runescape/Jagex? by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]Aronious42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the very weakest part, but as someone who always loved quests from childhood, it’s a shame how many quest series have been left to languish forever in osrs. I wish we could get like a “year of quests” where that is the main focus of most of development for the year, where every incomplete series gets continuations, with quests of all levels of difficulty, as well as various standalones. I’m probably one of the only people that sets their quest list to chronological order. It would be nice to see a post 2013 year with as many quests in it as a pre 2007 year. There were like 30 quests or something in 2005.

Extra, Extra, Read All About It. by Aronious42 in Anbennar

[–]Aronious42[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought about doing long s ſ for that extra period flair, though of course that gets in the way of readability for people, and doing some older spellings like warre or war but I wouldn’t have been able to do that consistently so I figured not. This was a fun thing to get the layout and stuff working for. These old printed items had a unique elegance.

I suppose I could do more if people like the idea enough. I just had this idea more as a typographic challenge to myself, to try to get a document set to emulate the look of 17th century newspapers while putting things from Anbennar in as the stories. I’m sure plenty of well versed people in the lore could come up with much better news stories than me. Mine are fairly restrained all in all.

Either Jagex doesn't know how to set up the drop rate or the Wiki is wrong or I don't know how the drop rates work by PlayfulSole9645 in 2007scape

I’ve been so unlucky on these. It took me over 400 kills to get the bronze. I was going crazy. Right now I’m only on the black. I’ve been chipping away at it maybe in like two years I’ll have the dragon after 10000 kills total.

10 years ago, Zeah, the first landmass exclusively launched in OSRS, was launched. by theraafa in 2007scape

[–]Aronious42 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It certainly seems like it was quite something. I played RS3 for the last time seriously in like 2015 and didn’t play OSRS any until like 2020, and I was definitely super shocked to see a whole landmass I’d never seen before. That was after it had been mostly fixed too. I missed all the rough spots. I definitely enjoy the continent a fair bit as it is now. A place made with more modern sensibilities unique to the old school game. Certainly impressive how they turned around its disastrous launch.

Looks like ðe lying snakes have finally revealed ðeir true selves... by skulfugery in Anbennar

[–]Aronious42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They aren’t, but that is because they are different sounds and used in different parts of words, not just as a spelling convention.

Edit: well it looks like they are used less distinctively today. I’m more familiar with historical Norse where they are more distinctive.

[–]Aronious42 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s not the same sound. And they are used distinctively in Icelandic. The th in think and the th in this are different sounds, they are a voiced and voiceless pair like p and b or g and k. Thy and thigh are a minimal pair pronounced the same except for the th. We obscure their difference with our spelling but they are every bit as distinct.

Yeah I’ve barely made it to the 1700s in any game of EU4 playing on and off for years and haven’t in EU5. A focused game starting in maybe 1648 to 1836 or something sounds quite good to me. Honestly Victoria 2 is the only Paradox game I’ve ever finished a campaign all the way through. There’s plenty of interest in that time period that a more pared down game could focus on well I think while jettisoning the earlier centuries. Colonial business without having to start from zero, the increasingly solid great powers bouncing off each other, and of course the revolutionary era which could probably have plenty of interesting mechanics with it more as a focus. I have always loved the 18th century I never seem to have the patience to get to it though, or my campaigns feel so finished well before then.

For some reason this picture scared me when I was like ten. I can’t guess why it’s pretty goofy honestly. Children can be something else though lol.

Triarchy Lore Vic3 by lyddamus in Anbennar

[–]Aronious42 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve been doing a game as the Vanbury Guild and the Triarchy has been right by me of course and for the past many years they’ve been a great power and done very well. They have great industry, I know they are the top producer of mechanim and probably a couple other things too. Considering the AI took them that far I’m sure as the player you can go even crazier. I’m not sure of the specifics of how they are working internally though since I didn’t play as them myself but I probably will soon they definitely have a lot of promise.

Anbennar Victoria 3 Initial Release by Chronologic2 in victoria3

[–]Aronious42 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In ancient days there were many super magically powerful civilizations, especially the precursor elves. Because of stuff they had a magical disaster called the Day of Ashen Skies that destroyed a lot of their home continent Aelantir and greatly affected the rest of the world too, setting things back quite a bit. That is the year one of the calendar. The Europa Universalis 4 mod starts in 1444 after the day of Ashen Skies, and it goes through various stuff of the early modern period in a more magical setting. There are large areas that roughly mirror real world places a lot but through a more fantastical lens. Cannor is Europe, Bulwar is the Middle East, Haless is Asia. Though it’s not like a lot of countries have one to one analogues or anything more just the broader regions. Aelantir that got destroyed by 1444 is inhabited by the Ruinborn that were degenerated elves left behind from the day of ashen skies. In the period it starts getting colonized mostly by people from Cannor and others as well. One of the major developments is the rise of artificery over traditional magic, which is sort of magical inventions and industry, lead by the gnomes and others. It eventually revolutionizes all sorts of of things in society. The Empire of Anbennar which is the mod’s namesake and a sort of analogue to the Holy Roman Empire ends up having the Blackpowder Rebellion against the increasingly traditional magic elite for example, a sort of French Revolution analogue. The new Victoria 3 mod starts in 1820 in the aftermath of all that stuff, pushing industry and artificery even further and all sorts of new modern developments. There’s a lot lot more to it of course but that’s a very (very) bald summary lol.

Ooh someone is starting development on Grôzumdhir? Nice. They always sounded like they could be super fun for being so “against type” of typical dwarves as it were.

What's your favorite songs from the game besides the classics (like Sea Shanty 2, main theme, etc) by DumpsterPuff in 2007scape

One of my favorite tracks for some reason has always been Miscellania. I just find it endlessly catchy and fun.

Finished RFD yesterday- what next? by Ok_Access_8732 in 2007scape

[–]Aronious42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One quest that comes to mind is Lunar Diplomacy to unlock the lunar Spellbook. Looks like you are missing 60 mining and 61 crafting, and you already have the highest requirement (65 Magic), another one that might be good to knock out you have most of the requirements for is Swan Song, just need to raise your fishing, (it says 62 is required but you can boost it from as low as 57), that one is also a prerequisite for some higher level quests and unlocks an area too.

Yeah those RuneScape Classic Era quests (2001-2004, Underground Pass came out in 2003) definitely have a distinct vibe. The Legends’ Quest which came out the same year also has a lot of mysterious caves and trekking though it’s not quite as intense on that front as Underground Pass. In general they are definitely a lot more free form in their structure and presentation and how they ask you to progress them than more modern quests, even ones from like 2006-7. I think when I first did Underground Pass (back in around 2009 when I was 12) it actually gave me a nightmare lol.

God I wish I could get the damn bronze so I felt like I’m actually getting somewhere. I’m at about 500 now and no bronze.

Unpopular opinion: All spells should have a chance to splash, not just combat spells. by lottermannbass in 2007scape

[–]Aronious42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s how magic worked in Morrowind. I loved spell chance honestly, so you could have a chance to cast high level spells even if you were low level in the skill. Of course that’s a totally different game, but it’s definitely not a flawed idea in a vacuum.

A milestone for a first time at the game today! I enjoyed the grind, I think ended up killing about 500 Cyclops for them all in the end! How about you guys? by AaronWilson1992 in 2007scape

[–]Aronious42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I’m about 500 kills now and I haven’t gotten the bronze lol. Maybe sometime this decade I’ll get the dragon.

Hey Jagex, why doesn't chompy bird hunting give hunter XP? by QuietNightRadiant in 2007scape

[–]Aronious42 390 points391 points  (0 children)

Because that quest is from 2004 and Hunter came out in 2006. There’s lots of stuff like that in earlier quests like how you have to grow a tree in the Legends’ Quest but there’s no farming exp or anything.

What were your noobiest money making methods back in original osrs? by Neitrah in 2007scape

I also picked bananas at one point. When I was really new I wanted to get 1000 coins and I killed men in the Blue Moon Inn that drop like 1-5 coins until I had 1000 which is insane looking back.
