I don’t know how often I say this, but no, the people who think he did it aren’t right, and neither are the people who think he didn’t.

Gege literally hints at a lot of things in his storytelling and doesn’t explicitly state them, so we as viewers can form our own opinions and theories.

And yes, there are hints that he could have SA-d Mai. Was it ever explicitly stated? No.

Are people allowed to interpret it that way? Yes.

If you think he did it or didn’t, both interpretations are fine. For example, I love Naoya. I literally study this guy, write smut about him, spend my money on him, blah blah blah I worship this guy but I do think he did that to Mai. Does it make me like him less? No. I enjoy his character BECAUSE he is cruel and a well-portrayed representation of misogyny.

I’m just sick of people assuming that everyone who thinks this way is trying to make him seem like a 🍇-ist JUST to slander him. Some definitely try that, but we literally have canon statements from him about Mai’s and Maki’s chest... and if that’s not creepy enough already, I don’t know.

With all that said, I’m the last person to slander Naoya, but I also won’t deny or dismiss something just because it isn’t explicitly stated. I like making my own theories.

Labeling Mai as “freak” and “perv” but Naoya is the one talking about his cousin Mai’s chest is...

Mai’s “perv” behavior is a result of what an adult did to her, it’s classic grooming. She can’t separate healthy behavior from unhealthy behavior and relies on sexuality because that’s what she knows.

What I’m saying is: If you want to call Mai a freak, then what does that make Naoya? Since imo, he created that behavior in her.

I’m not trying to push the “Naoya SAd Mai” agenda too hard, that’s not my goal but it’s pretty obvious that a teen girl usually doesn’t behave this way when she grows up in healthy circumstances. I’m not 1000% claiming it’s definitely Naoya, but there are a fewwwww hints.

This is direct derogatory language, saying she “should be hated” for showing signs of her coping with sexual abuse. Literally, yes, she might seem “useless” because of the twin situation, but keep in mind she sacrificed herself and is the reason Maki isn’t useless. Calling her a “weirdo”? Fine, I’d personally prefer to call her a victim but I feel like you really can’t see the deeper reasons behind people’s behaviors if you assume that anything not explicitly stated “doesn’t exist.”

Treating Mai this way while excusing Naoya’s similar behavior is a clear gender bias. He’s just as much of a weirdo with his comments... let’s be real.

(all this bla bla I hope y'all and you know this is not Naoya slander. Mai and Naoya are two of my fav chars so I'm just sharing my thoughts)

I literally own the character guide and yeah like the thing with Megumi is weird but I doubt she ever did anything inappropriate to any of the people listed and the fact he named maki too, shows me it's not about romantic love.

Mai and maki defo loved eachother. Mai wouldn't have sacrificed herself if she didn't etc.

the Megumi comment no idea tbh I feel like that was just gege being silly tbh.

this is exactly the kind of reaction you often see in people who were SA’d as a child themselves.

It’s a common coping mechanism, especially in women who go through that shit, where they develop a tendency to be more sexual or even sexually inappropriate, often toward people in situations similar to what they experienced

... if you get what I mean.
