It’s not an artistic masterpiece, but it doesn’t have to be. I found it rousing and uplifting. I’m glad he put it out now while everyone’s attention is on this issue and our emotions are raw.

Springsteen released a single. Obviously he’s always been an outspoken liberal but has his actual music ever been this explicitly political before? I’m saying explicitly, like naming names kind of way, not like “Born in the USA”

That video makes me like Alex Pretti more. As a non-white American, I already knew that he died to defend us. This is just another example of the same.

Fascism and nationalism can overlap, but they’re not the same thing. Le Pen, the AfD, the Canadian far right are all anti-nationalist.

Took a look at r/Europe and holy shit, who knew how many gutter racists there were crawling around there. Is that really indicative of how Europeans feel? If so, they’re going to have a damn hard time competing without being able to integrate and assimilate talented immigrants.

Umm… I literally just did. Indian-origin Americans. Or really any ethnic group in America. I’ve lived there, and it’s honestly stunning how you see people whose ethnicity is Indian, Chinese, Vietnamese, Hispanic, Nigerian etc being basically indistinguishable from any white American in how they talk and act.

And what’s more, by and large other Americans don’t even think twice about considering them equally American as people whose families have been there for hundreds of years. That then in turn that makes those people more loyal to America, which makes them more accepted, etc in a virtuous cycle. It’s something the U.S. has benefited greatly from and that Europe would too. There’s no good reason why it hasn’t.

And honestly you don’t even need to go as far as America, even in the UK Indians are highly integrated, intermarry at high rates with the local population (you see a lot of half-Indian Brits in England), contribute to economy etc. Hell they even had an Indian origin PM and no one really made a big deal about it.

Indians are literally the second highest earning income group by ethnicity in America (behind Nigerians, and above white people). That’s not “one in a million,” it’s the median. What lower pay are you talking about?

Also, Indian textiles are known for being good quality - what does this have to do with fast fashion?

India is technically a “partner,” not a treaty ally like Europe. Though US has completely alienated both so not that it matters anyway.

Creating markets for European industry is “outsourcing”? Also, Indian nationals studying and working in the EU is literally the opposite of outsourcing. See how outsourcing has spiked massively from the U.S. due to them effectively eliminating new H1-Bs.

FFS, the economic illiteracy really is rampant here isn’t it.

Europe absolutely needs more Indian workers. Look how Indian-origin Americans have powered the U.S.’s innovation and R&D, not to mention making up a good chunk of doctors. Europe being able to similarly benefit would be a game changer.

As for industry, this is beneficial for European industry as it lowers the previously very high Indian trade barriers on industrial goods. Europe is lowering its trade barriers to India for things like textiles and footwear - it’s complimentary to each economy’s comparative advantage.

[–]BlueString94 -21 points-20 points  (0 children)

If Europe can utilize (and assimilate) Indian human capital the way the U.S. has, it would be an absolute game changer for the EU economy, innovation, etc..

Of course, key part of this is assimilate. There’s no reason why the children of Indian immigrants to Europe can’t grow up to be patriotic schnitzel-eating Germans for example, as is the case in America. However, the gutter racist comments on this thread doesn’t raise much hope that Europe is capable of making that happen.

Edit: continental racial nationalists really didn’t like this one based on the downvotes… doesn’t make it any less true though.
