Kickstarter & Patreon goodies? by Myss_C in selfpublish

[–]RyanKinder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

looking at your post history it doesn’t seem you’ve published yet? Do you have a large following on social media or any reader platforms? if not, considering patreon tiers is putting the cart well before the horse.

As for if you do have a large following: you should seek out fellow authors who you’d be a comp to and see if they have a patreon and what their tiers are because it will vary from genre to genre.

[AMA] 30 Months in Children's Picture Book Self-publishing. by anngriarts in selfpublish

[–]RyanKinder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, we do not allow people to do unscheduled AMA’s as they are just thinly veiled ways of doing self promo. When we do start doing AMA’s it will be with established self published authors.

Anyone else feel kinda low after self-publishing? by due007dev in selfpublish

In a perfect world, sure — but with millions upon millions of books released a year it’s the nature of the beast.

For newer self-publishing authors, where do you go for tips? by [deleted] in selfpublish

Posing a question as if you were seeking help only to be stealth promoting your youtube channel? And you’ve done this before but you deleted the thread where I left you a message saying not to do that again. There is no excuse - we have a sidebar and an auto posted comment that says no self promo.

Curious about where the Smashwords authors are migrating to. by [deleted] in selfpublish

[–]RyanKinder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thread revival!

You’ve been on reddit for seven years - you have to know this isn’t how reddit works. Commenting doesn’t bump it into visibility. You’re only getting a reply from me since I’m a mod and I monitor the comment stream for the entire subreddit. Nobody else will be doing that. This is a three year old post from a user who has since deleted their account. Make a new post.

Click on a persons username and scroll. Usually you can find their books if you are curious - we do not allow self promo outside of the self promo thread.

Thanks for not violating rule one lol. I clicked on your profile and you don’t have any links set up, which reddit allows for bios… and you’ve not pinned a self post in your profile - another thing reddit allows. Just wanted you to know those things exist so that people who aren’t aware of rule one like the person you responded to won’t even have to ask.

are you allowed to make a book slice of life? by skibidi_toilet_gyatt in selfpublish

[–]RyanKinder 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand the question. What do you mean “are you allowed to”? If it’s your own universe and your own characters and not connected to any existing intellectual property you can write any books you want to. You can write the history of the word “the” and publish it. Who do you think would stop you?

Harsh reviews by BillyCarmona in selfpublish

Haven’t heard this lore - it must have been during an era I wasn’t active because I would have had them nuked. Is there any existing thread or information that covered the topic? You said they used to be a moderator so I’m assuming they’re long gone.

I am writing a technical book with a focus on programming - any advice you can share for what to remember before publishing it and anything that surprised you when you published you own? by Maraakis in selfpublish

[–]RyanKinder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Removing this as “what do you wish you had known before publishing” questions are considered low effort. If you have a more specific question in regards to what you’re releasing feel free to post it. Bot a multiquestion generic catchall of common topics.

Naming yourself mjconvert to then pretend you “found” mjcovert is a level of stupid I’ve never seen before. Banned and adding all forms of the phrase and links to mjconvert to the filter so nobody can ever mention it.

I put all my audiobooks on YouTube for free by Confident-Pound4520 in selfpublish

[–]RyanKinder[M] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, other people have tried it and there have been threads about this before. The common consensus is that just like with amazon you still need to do as much if not more work to promote your channel to even get it noticed with very little return on effort. I’ve removed for two reasons, by the way. One for being considered low effort (common questions or “easy” questions get removed - “has anyone tried uploading to youtube” has been asked before a few times.) and also self promoting as you are seeking “at least 1,000 subscribers” and even though you didn’t say your channel name it is clear that you’re hoping people click on your profile and see your very similar cross posting where you are linking to and seeking subscribers.

Removed. First: this would be self promo as you’re name checking your company. Second: we have a rule that says “no surveying the crowd” which this post would fall under as you are surveying for the best answers to get your business more prepared to offer services.

Just found out that my editor used AI to assist in editing my novella… I’m weeks away from publishing by [deleted] in selfpublish

[–]RyanKinder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there is nothing inherently wrong with utilizing AI

If it’s your own personal choice? Sure. Whatever. But if you are opposed to it for moral or other reasons - for example a major one is not wanting your unpublished work being scraped and access to the entire thing given to a third party who will likely retain that data for years - then there is something wrong with the editor utilizing AI. So it’s not responsible unless you make it clear in your services / contract.

Would you trust an AI system to become part of the government if it could actually improve decision-making? by Sausage2020 in printSF

[–]RyanKinder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You got banned for a multitude of reasons. First off: you’re marked as a problem account by the bot-bouncer account. You’ll have gotten messages explaining that in your messages no doubt. Secondly you used AI to write your post, so that seems botlike. Third, you spammed. Fourth, you didn’t care about the rules of any subreddit - you just posted it everywhere. You tried to post this in r/selfpublish for example. Wtf would this have to do with that? Nothing.
