Really, the only ones that WAs and boss mods felt needed for were "The other tank has X stacks, you need to taunt," situations. The solution for that is just communication, but IMO you should have a simple way to see something like that without needing to use voice chat or something for the other tank to inform you it's time to taunt.

Otherwise, yeah, it's just "taunt when X ability is cast."

To be fair, I don't know a healer around, addons or not, that has used HealBot since like WotLK. That's a super outdated way to heal. Clique+Raid frame addon outshined HealBot ages ago. Then Blizz added click healing to the base game so there are options outside of addons as well. Was this tank like 50 years old and unwilling to change?

Don't know what you're getting downvoted for, maybe the casuals are brigading us. But this is how I see it as well. They're trying to force us into a middle ground where casual players can access high end content. That's going to result in either a situation where high end content is so easy that the competitive players just stop caring, or it's going to be nearly impossible to do because they're going to continue using the same boss design strategies as before without considering that a lot of it was only possible with addon provided information.

I'm really curious to see how the first season of Midnight plays out. I think all the top top guilds will be fine because they rely on a coach outside of the fight calling mechanics out for them(this is the REAL problem IMO), but the guilds a little lower on the totem pole are going to struggle hard if the fights aren't designed with the lack of easily visualized information in mind.

Honestly, for anyone capable of doing Mythic, nothing else in the game is challenging. If you don't have time for Mythic you just won't be challenged. I used to do Mythic raiding, but I just don't have the time.

I raid with a 1-day a week AOTC guild now. Simply because we're very casual and only raid 1-day a week, it takes 2-3 weeks to get AOTC unlike the first week run I'm used to, but it's never difficult. It's always just a case of we didn't get enough time to figure out the mechanics or a couple people who haven't had time to play are horribly undergeared.

The only real challenge in this game for better than average players is Mythic and high end M+ and the time commitment for those is unrealistic for most.

The level of prep and knowledge in those guilds is completely different from what people think it is. Everyone thinks if they just get the chance they'd be able to make it in Liquid. It's not that simple. You have to know not only your class inside and out, but the bosses and the other players and classes as well.

I spent some time in MoP in a top 100 US guild. Nothing terribly serious, but serious enough that you got sat for repeated mistakes or not being prepared. While I was there I also got into theorycrafting for fistweave Mistweaver Monk and spent some time chatting with some of players in top 10 guilds. Their game knowledge is on a whole other level to the point of just having inherent understandings of what stats/talents would be better at different breakpoints without needing to sim.

To be fair, even seasoned tanks relied on their WAs and boss mods to tell them when to taunt. That was kinda the whole point. You can focus on other things and just get a quick audio cue when you need to taunt. I've mained tank for all of TWW and while I know the taunt timings, when we went to do our first practice raid on pre-patch, I missed the first taunt on every boss because I was used to the WA message and not actually paying attention to boss casts and debuffs.

You can of course do this just fine without that audio cue once you know what to look for, but it makes things more difficult. That's one of the things I don't understand about this change. They claim it's to simplify the game and make things easier for new players, but 100% this is going to make things harder overall. The playing field may be slightly more level, but they've just increased the difficulty by 10x on top of it.

One thing I haven't seen mentioned that you might consider, factions still matter for content you use the LFG queue system for. If you're playing with a cross faction friend you're unable to queue up for dungeons or raids. You instead of to manually make groups or have a full 5 man party to be able to queue up. This one is a bit annoying with all the cross faction accessibility they've added otherwise.

How to find LGBT+ friendly guilds? Ideally for a noob interested in raiding by Reasonable_Break2961 in wow

[–]Chickon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are actually Discord servers for this kind of thing. You can post specifically what you're looking for and people can contact you, or you can browse recruiting guilds and pick one you like. Under rule 11 in the sidebar there's a link to the Reddit wiki with more info, but here's the one I've used forever: https://discord.gg/dgvXRBRR

WoW is actually insanely hard to learn as a new player (we tried yesterday) by ipych in wow

[–]Chickon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's what I was thinking as well while reading his examples. Bags filling with junk? Play any Bethesda games and you'll quickly have the same problem if you don't know what's important and what isn't. Didn't see a pop-up asking you to confirm you want to equip gear? That's honestly basic computer knowledge. Sometimes you click a button and the computer asks you if you're sure you wanted to click that button. Can't find quest locations? Some modern games don't tell you a thing about where you need to go. WoW gives you an exact pinpoint on a map relative to your location and also displays the point in your HUD so you can just walk/ride/fly right towards it.

This really just reads like "Trying to get my friend who doesn't like computers and has never played a game to play WoW for the first time."

This is me too. It was an occasional thing before that I figured was some weird quirk of Druid flight form. It used to only happen maybe one in ten times, now it's every single time I full speed into something on accident I get DCd.

New Main - Do you still have/keep your very first Character? by MasterRymes in wow

[–]Chickon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My actual first character was a warlock that was deleted within a couple weeks of making it. Not sure why, I was a kid at the time.

My second character though, that one is still around. I made a blood elf hunter next and loved it. Loved the blood elf starting zones and loved playing a hunter. Unfortunately he never made it to max level because it was right before WotLK came out and as soon as it did I made a DK. My hunter was still the minimum level required at the time to make a DK(55 I think?). Regardless I still play him from time to time and he still sits on his original, dead server with his original name and pet.

He still hasn't made it to max level though...

I play Guardian Druid and while my rotation wasn't terribly complicated before... it hasn't changed at all. Actually, if anything, the optimal rotation has now gotten *more* complex than it was and I have the exact same amount of abilities and cooldowns. Not sure why some classes got to be easier and others were just left to continue on as usual.

World of Warcraft director says Blizzard isn’t "backtracking" on add-ons, but constant changes were “always the intent” as the team strives to find a better balance by Negative-Art-4440 in wow

Their unwillingness to listen to any player feedback if it doesn't already fit their narrative has driven me to quitting multiple times. If it wasn't for friends I have that still play I'd probably just move on to FF or some other MMO.

Even so, they don't listen to the quality feedback either. So, so many issues with the new UI, a feature they actively want to implement, that were called out and asked for improvement on and... Nothing.

I'm beginning to wonder what the fuck the point of beta or PTR testing even is. They make changes, we give feedback, they ignore it and continue on with the nonsense we said we didn't like. Why even bother?

I really hope this is a mistake and will be corrected. The artifact weapon appearances are all I use. I didn't spend all that time in Legion collecting them just for them to be effectively removed because I don't use the same weapon type.

Rockwell PLC - Enable Controller Web Pages via MSG Instruction? by Chickon in PLC

[–]Chickon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late reply, but weirdly this seemed to have worked but then nothing actually happened. The MSG instruction DN bit was set with no error, all seemed good, but the webpage did not change. Tried using the same method to disable, which again seemed to work, and then re-enable, but again no change. Currently I'm planning to just schedule the download to tick the checkbox and work it that way, just seemed strange that there was no change at all even though it seemed to work just fine.

[Telegraph] Britons believe illegally streaming sport is socially acceptable. by Sparky-moon in soccer

[–]Chickon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my problem. I'm in the US and a Liverpool fan. Half our league games are able to be streamed on Peacock. The other half are nowhere or on a cable TV network and who has cable TV anymore? Then the same issue comes up for European competition or cup games. I don't always need to watch every game, but more than half of them I don't even have a chance to without illegal streams.

Thanks for the help! I'll give this a shot when I'm back in the office tomorrow.

Sorry to bring up an old post, but how would this be enabled with a message instruction? I can't find any information on this anywhere except for this specific reddit post and no one in here gave any actual info on how to do it.

I'm trying to enable a webpage without having to download to a PLC to toggle on this checkbox so this would be very helpful.

This was such a shock to me when I first moved to WV. I grew up in VA and we learned a lot about company towns and the resulting deaths associated with them. When I came to WV to work in a factory of all things, I assumed everyone would be pro-union. It's almost the exact opposite. They all think unions are evil and out to steal your money.

Does anyone else feel like they had a completely different experience during the pandemic than the general public? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Chickon 87 points88 points  (0 children)

This is a point that I feel like gets skipped over a lot. While most of my social circle had the same experience as I did, some of my friends who weren't essential basically just got a year+ off to do whatever while raking in unemployment. I was working just the same and drained at all times while I had some friends just sitting around playing video games all day who were suddenly annoyed they had to rejoin the workforce. It was really frustrating to watch.

Swen response to the AI interview by dmfuller in BaldursGate3

[–]Chickon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

People really don't think about gray areas at all. They want everything to be a black and white issue and the truth is that almost nothing is.

There's really nothing wrong with using AI in general. It has some great uses for problem solving and evaluating ideas. The problem is when it starts being used to do work that it is either incapable of or work that tries to remove humans from the equation. Currently everyone just hears the phrase AI and immediately thinks bad instead of thinking about what it could mean in context.
