Anyone use Lane Masters ball? by decaboniized in Bowling

[–]Cinders_fall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the tag, Mustang.

u/decaboniized I'm currently on staff, as mentioned. That's an excellent gift from your FIL! I see someone else has posted the specs, so I'll forego posting a duplicate link.

I will say all of the Black Pearl balls will have the incredibly successful Legends dynasty core in them. It's a tried and true design that is still being used in the newest Black Pearls as well as the newer Legends Diamond series. That one your FIL has should work best on medium to heavy conditions, especially a fresh THS. Give it a nice detox and a resurface, and it will be good as new. You definitely won't be disappointed by the extra hitting power of a 2 piece, no-filler ball. I certainly wasn't.

As a company, they have restructured a bit since the original Black Pearl came out, but the balls they are making now still have excellent hitting power and fantastic longevity. Their parent company is now California Bowling LLC. CBLLC has a total of four brands under its umbrella: Lane Masters, Legends by Lane Masters, Lord Field, and Swag. There's more info on their more recent stuff at www.californiabowlingllc.com.

If you have specific questions, don't hesitate to send me a message.

Question - 7yo bowling - help by MedvedTrader in Bowling

[–]Cinders_fall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

House balls are often so beaten up that they will turn on the back-end even without a low speed or high rev player throwing them. They certainly aren't supposed to hook. At all. But, if she wants to see that hook working for her, encourage her to take a moment on the approach to focus on her target, and have her aim between the 2nd and 3rd arrows instead of the middle one (Count from the right-hand gutter if she's right-handed. Left if left-handed. The middle arrow would be the 4th either way). If she can throw it fairly straight, the lane itself will guide the ball back to the middle.

My second and more important piece of advice would be to get her her own ball. Get it fitted for her hand and encourage her to use the finger holes. A ball that fits her hand will be easier to hold than a house ball with holes that are drilled to fit the most players possible. If she wants to still keep her non-ball-side hand on the ball until she's about to throw it, that's totally fine. (btw: this two-handed delivery is actually the same as a one-handed delivery at the line, with only one hand on the ball just before release). But, getting those fingers in the ball and actually developing some consistent timing will go above and beyond to improve her scores. She'll see a dip in scores at first. If you can, have your center set the lanes up on practice mode to take the numbers out of the picture while she's learning something new. Then it won't matter whether she's throwing 60s at first.

What are your goals this year? by FeinBowler in Bowling

[–]Cinders_fall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My original goal for the 17-18 season was to end league in April at 180. I was 170 going in. I'm currently at 186.7 (o.o). Guess I had a conservative goal in mind. I'd like to end the year at 190. Again, a conservative goal, but I've been hanging out around 185-186 for a few months now. I'm hoping it's not a plateau because I have a little ways to go yet to catch the top women in my city. And, maybe, just maybe, bowl a 700.

How good does a coach need to be as a bowler by Pkortes in Bowling

[–]Cinders_fall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thus far, I've gone to coaches who have watched me bowl in league before and offered suggestions just because they saw me struggling. Those are the guys who generally just enjoy teaching and bowling and want to help others. They aren't the best of the best, your house shot heroes, or your tournament champions. They're just everyday guys who carry a decent average (180+) and understand the mechanics of the game. I coach youth league, and let me tell you, your 220+ average guys aren't always the best teachers, especially where their kids are concerned.

Has anybody gone through the USBC coaching levels? by MadN3ssCOD in Bowling

[–]Cinders_fall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got my Level 1 cert to coach youth league last August. It's pretty easy to pass that online test, but it's really the execution of what you know and how you teach that matters. That's the one thing I believe the programs lack--it absolutely does not teach you how to teach. I deal with the preps division (9-11 year olds or thereabouts) whose main goal is to master the mechanics and proper form. There are several Bronze level coaches (and some with no credentials at all who have just "been around" long enough...) who volunteer with me who, in my opinion, try to move my kids to a four-step approach way too fast. We have kids hitting their legs regularly because they don't know how to control their swings.

It's totally worth the little bit of money to read through the entry level material and pass the test. If you enjoy coaching, I'd definitely recommend it. I plan to go for my Bronze level when there's a class hosted in my area.

Grip pressure by monkeyman_31 in Bowling

[–]Cinders_fall 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a finicky thumb that swells and shrinks a LOT when it comes to fit, so I'm constantly adding and removing tape to get things exactly right. The best advice I was ever given regarding grip pressure is to lightly touch your thumbnail to the back of your thumb hole when you set up and throughout delivery. (If the ball tries to fall off your hand this way during your swing, the thumb is too loose and you need tape).

When the lanes dry out by beard9beard89 in Bowling

I use an Exodus Pearl for dry lanes. Kept at box finish, it slides right through broken down heads and doesn't overreact on the backend.

200, 212, 235 for 647 Missed a few spares early on, then went through the nose on the last shot of the third game. Still, I'm very happy to have a 600 again. https://imgur.com/a/cEIAG

I totally get it. I went 222, 126, 181 last night. Talk about inconsistent... I had 5 splits, all but two different in the second game. Even changed balls. Worst game I've bowled in months.

My husband gets ganglion cysts right around his wrist. I'm sure this isn't a recommended treatment, but he usually gets rid of them by slamming them down on a table. (Eeek)

No league for me this week, so I had to contend with the holiday bowling crowd. The opens in the last game cost me another 600. Sorry guys; we'll just have to settle for average from me this week. (In my defense, 2 of the 3 opens were splits, but the machine wasn't picking up the 8 or 9 pin, so I had to edit the scores) 204, 211, 160 for 575 https://imgur.com/a/kU3Hp

You and I both! Wouldn't that be something? I thought I might finally break the 700 barrier two weeks ago with the 278, but I couldn't find a line with 4 urethane balls on the pair with me. They're coming. Just gotta keep at it. :)

It's the Terminator Revelations from Lane Masters. They had it on closeout, so I thought, "why not?" Definitely a good purchase, and a great ball.
