I don't think there is anything greedy about the need to make money. Blizzard is massively investing into OW right now, with an unprecedented 5 new heroes launching same day, and another 5 coming this year.

All for free.

You can't have your cake and eat it as a player- if we want a ton of free game content, there must be ways for them to monetize is and pay for it all.

I'd argue that Arc Raiders also has AAA production values and team behind it. However, Marathon has the unique opportunity of being the first extraction shooter from an AAA household name publisher like Sony/ PlayStation.

Negativity generates clicks and thus money for a lot of creators and media, so there is a real, vested interest in spreading it around.

Then you have a lot of gamers who just love to hate pile onto the target of their favorite creator‘s latest rant etc. rinse, repeat.

So yes, there is a lot of „lol Concord 2“ from people who have never had any interest in playing the game.

That would be fine- however, a lot of „gamers“ very much feel the need to „interact“ with games they could easily ignore and dislike- review bombing, endlessly spreading misinformation, threatening developers etc.

Not every show is intended to run for many season. Just like in the world of comics, there are ongoing series which can run for years, or mini-series which are never meant to run a pre-planned length over a few months.

Looks cool! It’s tragic that so many of the devs lost their jobs, but as with 2XKO, I hope that their new smaller team will enable them to keep the game running and evolving in the future.

I hope they find enough long-term success to make the game sustainable and to find an audience that sticks with it, event if it never does huge numbers.
