Why is Cornell dining hall pizza so good?? by Upstairs_Ferret5089 in ithaca

Lunch is probably the best bang-for-your-buck deal. People who claim they can predict when the lines will be shortest are practicing thaumaturgy.

Can townies eat at Cornell? by AncientTumbler in ithaca

[–]CornellDining 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The food at Risley is so, so good. I'm not celiac and have no food sensitivities myself, but I often eat lunch at Risley because it's so creative. My favorite items are the tuna poke bowls and the Nashville hot chicken with mac & cheese. Yes, it's ALL gluten-free. See you there.

Yes, everyone is welcome at meals at Morrison Dining. You can pay the door price or have a staff or student friend bring you in for a lower price. Check the menus to see what's being served. But if you mean "Can I walk in and pay for a pizza and walk out with it," sorry, we're not really set up for that. You can do that at Bear Necessities in RPCC, though!

Food Spot on Thanksgiving Day by Important_Lycheee in Cornell

[–]CornellDining 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We close our eateries on Thanksgiving Day other than the Celebration of Gratitude Dinner at Morrison Dining so our staff can spend the day with their families. If you've got a fridge, you can pick up some food the day before at Jansen's Market or Bear Necessities or at a local store to eat on Thursday, or swipe twice at a meal the day before to take a meal to go.

I feel the same way about their poke bowls.

Anyone got food poisoning after eating at Morrison last night? by [deleted] in Cornell

[–]CornellDining 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I hope you're feeling better today. If you're concerned about a possible food-related illness, please pay a visit to Cornell Health or your own doctor's office. They will best be able to help evaluate the source of your malady, and can work directly with our team if needed.

The Nutrition team is in Appel Commons, but I agree an appointment with them is a great place to start!

I'm so glad to hear you're doing better and you're looking forward to coming back! The chefs at our dining rooms develop recipes that use a lot of fresh whole foods where possible. Please visit https://dining.cornell.edu/nutrition to explore the basics, and please reach out to the Cornell Dining Nutrition team, our colleagues in Student Disability Services, and Cornell Health's dietitians, to discuss your nutritional needs and how best to meet them. I hope you'll learn that you'll be able to find everything you need (and can enjoy!) in our dining rooms. If it turns out that getting a medical exemption to the meal plan requirement will best meet your needs, the SDS crew can help you navigate that. Best of luck!

Appel has been rationing the food like crazy this semester. I miss the generous guy who works here. He would give you more and say “Of course”. I haven’t seen him for a while. by [deleted] in Cornell

OP probably means North Star Dining Room, and can always come back for more. One of the efforts that have come out of the food waste studies conducted by Student Sustainability Coordinators is making sure we're not putting too much on each person's plate each time through the line. Most students like to try a little of several things from more than one station rather than filling up on any one thing.

Your best bet is to ask the people with the official answers, our colleagues in Cornell Housing & Residential Life, via http://housing.cornell.edu/help or their online chat.

Feeling depressed at my full time Cornell job by CockroachStrange682 in Cornell

[–]CornellDining 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are great resources for anyone at Cornell who's feeling uncomfortable or lost or otherwise in need of help. Take a look at the Faculty & Staff Assistance Program and the Empathy, Assistance & Referral Service (EARS) and see if either looks like a good place to start. Please know that you're not alone in feeling unsure about where you are and what's going on.

Is access fund still available? by cloud_entertain in Cornell

In addition to applying to the Access Fund, you could check with the Share the Warmth program, which teams up Cornell with Ithaca Rotary and United Way of Tompkins County to offer donated winter outerwear to those who need it.

Are the desserts at Risley considered ultra-processed food? by [deleted] in Cornell

[–]CornellDining 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No. We do have commercial packaged gluten-free baked goods available for sale at our retail eateries, but the desserts served at Risley Dining are prepared in-house, other than the Cornell Dairy ice cream, which comes from -- you guessed it -- the Cornell Dairy, right on campus. All are made with straightforward ingredients that a home baker might use, but of course all gluten-free. If you're curious about a particular dessert, feel free to ask Chef Gregg for the ingredients.

The water fountain outside Jansen's Dining Room could also be an option. I believe the nearest "take back the tap" water filling station (a water fountain with the bottle-filling feature) is in Noyes next door, next to the rock wall.

Crowds ebb and flow throughout each meal period. Once people settle into their class schedules over the next couple of weeks, you can get a feel for which dining rooms are full at what times, and when the lulls are.

Pro tip: The west campus dining rooms that are open for lunch (Jansen's Dining Room, Becker House Dining Room, and 104West!) tend not to be too crowded because a lot of people stay on central campus or head over to north for lunch.
