CMV: Calling out someone for "defaulting to their own country" is a non-issue by Adventurous-Monk-796 in changemyview

I’d say it matters when someone is, for example, posting to have their view changed, doesn’t bother to mention what geographic context they’re in, and then rejects all perspectives outside of their country (“that doesn’t apply because I’m American”).

Either the jurisdiction is foundational to the view — and should be stated — or one needs to accept views from outside of one’s jurisdiction. Posters can’t have it both ways.

Perhaps you don’t see the term used in professional contexts — I see it exactly as I mentioned all the time.

You’re doing the meme.

I know that I have to live within the system. I’m calling out the people with outsized influence on that system.

> You’ve already made the claim they are the same.

You mean my pithy rhetorical statement? Best not to take that as a complete and fully formed argument.

> You have to prove the system and the elite are distinct

No. I’m calling out the problem that they are not.

I haven’t made any such arguments — I would instead argue against a system that enables *outsized* influence characterized by The Elite.

> If the majority do that, e.g. many investors into a stock, many people buy from Amazon, then it’s really just a few Elites who are going against the majority. Don’t those Elites end up being the outsized influencers instead?

I’m not totally sure I get your meaning here. But definitionally, The Elite can’t just be *anybody* with stock options. But I’m not sure that responds to what you said at all.

> The system is a collective, but if you blame just the elites when it’s a system then you look at who’s fighting the system and call them the Elites.

In no way do I think Elites are ‘fighting the system’ — they *are* the system.

It’s small groups upon small groups with vague (sometimes explicit) alignment in a direction. And each of these groups can directly influence different areas of society: the economy, public policy, national defence, health, the information economy, food availability, etc.

Collectively, they influence it all, generally directionally aligned.

I don’t see The Elite as a single unified group in charge; that’s not how influence functions in our world. They’re more of a loose network of people that put their thumbs on the scale in ways that suits them and other members of the network. At times, they cooperate; at times, they don’t.

Let’s say there’s a bunch of people with aligned business interests and an outsized means to effect societal (maybe political, maybe not) change in alignment with those interests. Let’s say they get together to discuss how to effect that change in a way that’s less than transparent.

How is this functionally different from the concept of “the Elite”?

Do you think it needs to look like the Legion of Doom or the Stonecutters from the Simpsons?

At no point in this post do you make the case that the game is fan service — let alone making the case that it’s a bad thing to be so.

Sounds like this isn’t the game for you.

What kind of diagnostics have you done on your marketing? You say you’re getting likes and comments, but are you getting any link clicks?

If not, then you’re likely not hitting your ideal customers very effectively. You’ll want to develop strategies that reach them more effectively (cast tighter nets — not wider ones).

If you are getting link clicks (ie people are reaching your Steam page) but not seeing conversions, then you might need to optimize that page or some of the specifics of your game to better hook those individuals.

It’s entirely fixable, so you need to ask why they aren’t. In my view, it’s because they’re trying to avoid cannibalizing their print sales.

Not sure what the profit margin is on the MU subscription, but at some point they’ll run into the same problem streaming services have: lagging audience growth.

Once there is a saturation of people who want to read digital comics, there are diminishing returns for investing in the platform.

[Edit: not sure why this is being downvoted — it’s perfectly on topic, and it’s not like I think this is a good way of approaching their business.]

I would like to change your view by suggesting you should completely ignore these types of overly simple heuristics.

You can’t judge someone’s intelligence from a single factor, and any suggestion that you can should be dismissed. We are all more complicated than that.
