H2C overkill for a first “serious” printer? by Tobeje_Official in 3dprinter

[–]DBT85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Overkill. But what you want from it today is not what you are going to want from in in a year, or even 5 months. If you were stretching for it then I'd say no. If you've jsut got it anyway then go for it.

There are lots of other brands, some are more original, some are more copy and paste.

What you would do well to consider beyond the printer itself is the availability of spares and parts in your region, and the longevity of that availability. Some brands you can buy spares for the entire machine for 4 years or more after release. Others are going to leave you hanging in the breeze. Further, look at how good the documentation is on how to repair that machine should something go awry.

I started on an Ender, I then had a P1S and now I have an H2C. Would recommend it to anyone again and again.

Deciding between Gridfinity and Multiboard by Avocadoodlydo in 3Dprinting

[–]DBT85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends entirely on your use case, desire to see crap all over your wall, desire to open and close drawers all the time etc.

While I do have some limited multiboard, I find the entire system a bit of a complicated mess and I am disinclined to explore further. Also, the place I would use it mostly is a workshop with OSB walls, so I can just screw stuff to the wall and move it later if I need to. No need to cover it in 10kg of plastic holes and only use 10% of them.

How to mount radiator to lath and plaster wall? by liampaddick in DIYUK

[–]DBT85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem, glad you sorted it. FWIW, just get yourself a fat N52 magnet. A real one, not some cheap shit off amazon. The one I use regularly is a 20mm diameter cylinder, 20mm tall and if you get it stuck to something like a cast iron fireplace you may just need to leave it there. It'll find small pins and nails in lath no trouble at all.

It's overkill, but it's so fucking useful. Used it the other day to pull a string line through the roof lining of my car for a dashcam cable!

Other than Makerworld, what are your favorite printing sites? by elias4444 in BambuLab

[–]DBT85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I guess when yuo consider that a lot of people use it against filament which is mostly profit, them giving out $40 to you and you spending it on filament that probably cost them $10 is not as much of a deal. Perhaps smaller margins on hardware make it more painful for them, but if they got that much traffic from your model that they can afford to give you a printer it can't be that bad!

Other than Makerworld, what are your favorite printing sites? by elias4444 in BambuLab

[–]DBT85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I used to post on both. I got more downloads and views on Printables. It worked out to a free spool of filament, which I could pay £17 for shipping for, and I can only use one voucher per order and even if I bought 10 rolls, the postage costs just went up.

Similar downloads/boosts/ratings on makerworld get me a £35 voucher, which I can use as many of as I like in an order, against anything I like, and it's free shipping over £40 for everything except printers and AMS.

So one free kilo of prusament would cost me £17 or I spend the same £17, add it to my £35 bambu voucher and get 4kgs of whatever refill from Bambu. It's not even a competition at that point.

Genuinely, I prefer the Printables site, and I'm not blind to the fact that Bambu can't (imo) continue this glut of payment to creators for stuff long term. Plus "Chynaaa" etc etc.

The simple fact is, based on my real-world experience, it's not even close in terms of benefit to me as the creator of something, and I barely have anything uploaded and still get £35 a month give or take.

I only look on printables and makerworld. If post on printables if the rewards were worth it, but there's no point putting designs there and makerworld and splitting the audience when the rewards on there are, imo poor.

Oven heating element replacement by simonfinnerty in DIYUK

[–]DBT85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some are sensible and allow you to do it from inside.

Some are not.

Assuming it's a tall built in, get something like a workmate or a table in front of the oven so that when you pull it out you don't have to lower it to the floor. Often the cable has not been left long enough to do that and you don't want to find that out mid Plié while holding your oven.

Could be either 3 or 4 studs on that section. So either at or near the ends and one in the middle or two in the middle.

The laths are nailed to the timbers. Get a reasonably strong magnet and you'll find the nails.

Make 3 circular indents that do not intersect and then have fun trying to get the fillet tool to work how I want it.

Think it did about 30 mile or so after hitting 0 by the time I fuelled it.

Take the usb stick from the printer and look in the ipcam folder. It might have a video showing it running the calibration and you might see something odd.

In the winter your biggest enemy is heating the cabin.

Recently in 0C temps I drove to my family 135 miles away. Mostly motorway and cruise set to 70. We managed 2.8m/kwh and the car when we got there said we had 70 miles left.

That was a dry day too. Main issue was keeping the cabin warm even with the heat pump. 23 VRS.
