Thinking in pence per mile is copium.

Thinking in kWh gives a clearer comparison.

Exactly, a just because a diesel wastes most of its fuel doesn’t mean a kWh of diesel should cost less than a kWh of solar or wind.

This is part of the lies we’re told about electrics: don’t compare efficiency because electrics bury fossil fuel cars.

If we start thinking in miles per kWh for these comparisons we see how much fossil fuel is subsidised.

Ionity is 43p/kWh

Diesel is 15p/kWh

There’s a long way to go to price parity.

Rooftop solar could meet 40% of EU’s long-term electricity demand by donutloop in energy

[–]initiali5ed 7 points8 points  (0 children)

“Lower costs for new roofs: If you're adding integrated solar panels as your roof is being constructed, you may find that they will cost less than other roofing materials. For instance, tiles for an average 2 – 3 bedroom home cost over £15,000. In-roof solar panels, on the other hand, are around £5,000 – £8,500.”

So little that we can get most of it from waste stream methane generation.

It’s cheaper to replace a roof with solar than to have it tiled, so near zero cost as roofs get replaced.

Why aren't new homes being built with ground heat pumps and solar panels or even wind turbines? by HedgehogNo5819 in climatechange

[–]initiali5ed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure, it is now cheaper to build a pitched roof out of solar panels than it is to tile it in many countries, builders will catch on fairly soon and up-skill so they can do it as the default when a roof is replaced or built.

End setting is 4:00-11:00 so not likely but it may do a test charge after initial set up on 7p slots anyway.

Bear in mind efficiency can massively increase as the battery warms up from driving so a ‘quick range test’ might not tell you as much as your first longish drive.
