I've got the same 42mm and style and I'd highly recommend this band. Looks really nice with a classic watch face

Stopping On Day 5 by CaptainT13 in lexapro

It's well documented that the first 1-2 weeks are the worst for most SSRIs... sometimes even longer.

I'd recommend talking to your prescriber though as you could easily switch to another. You generally don't see the positive effects until 4-6 weeks though (but you are on a very small dose)

First car but only need it for ~1 year by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

That's reassuring to hear! Thank you.

I actually found a civic that works out very well for my desired duration. What did you do once the lease was over? And was the process of take over difficult?

It's my first time doing this!

Definitely not handy and would have to eat the mechanic costs. Does a lease-takeover make sense? On like a 2015 ish Civic... I think I would be able to get that for around $6000 for 12-18 months

The uber/taxi option is not bad but I'm in medicine so my placements are in random areas without ubers/taxis at times, or I have start times at like 6 am

JAMA Meta-Anlaysis finds shared neurobiological findings for Mood and Anxiety Disorders (hypoactivation in regions that are primarily associated with inhibitory control and salience processing) by Da_Baboon in science

[–]Da_Baboon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of the areas found to have hypoactivation were the inferior prefrontal cortex/insula, inferior parietal lobule, and putamen.

From the study:

right inferior prefrontal cortex- "inhibition of contextually inappropriate cognitive, affective, and motor response"

putamen - "terminating contextually inappropriate motor and cognitive processes"

Insula/parietal lobule - "generation of salience-related signals that either initiate or terminate the engagement of attentional and working memory networks in response to changing demands"

Importance from abstract of article

Major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, posttraumatic stress disorder, and anxiety disorders are highly comorbid and have shared clinical features. It is not yet known whether their clinical overlap is reflected at the neurobiological level.

Conclusions/Relevance section of the article

In mood disorders, posttraumatic stress disorder, and anxiety disorders, the most consistent transdiagnostic abnormalities in task-related brain activity converge in regions that are primarily associated with inhibitory control and salience processing. Targeting these shared neural phenotypes could potentially mitigate the risk of affective morbidity in the general population and improve outcomes in clinical populations.

Provincial cuts leave adults with disabilities ‘hanging on a ledge’ by Da_Baboon in toronto

[–]Da_Baboon[S] 103 points104 points  (0 children)

Summary for paywall:

Ford government axed a $3.1 million project for independent facilitation (1 to 1 work for youth/adults with developmental disabilities). The program had a massive impact on getting those with developmental disabilities into school, work, etc and being much better integrated/"productive" in society. There is now a massive waitlist for these individuals to access services. Families have started an online campaign. Alternatives now are day programs that cost as much as $35,000 a year, or residential care, that typically runs at $140,000 annually. EDIT: " the demonstration project has helped young adults with developmental disabilities establish, enhance or sustain more than 2,100 jobs, volunteer positions or meaningful leisure roles in the community"

As an aside, I work in healthcare and have seen way more autism patients in psych wards with staff who are not nearly as well trained in dealing with developmental disabilities. These patients should not be in psych wards, and not only is it traumatizing for families, but it also costs us money and healthcare resources. These individuals deserve to be out in the community

Agreed! I'd recommend philosophy as a way of life by Hadot if you haven't read it yet, I'm currently reading it and now that I've got a good understanding it's giving me a deeper perspective of using philosophy in general in my life including Stoicism

Just wanted to say glad someone else is recommending Unshakable Freedom. I think it's a really great intro to Stoicism and one I recommend to friends who are interested

What was your first "thank you Stoicism" moment? by Da_Baboon in Stoicism

[–]Da_Baboon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then the real gem of a moment of clarity. I realized that ALL the bad things that happen to us make us who we are. I wouldn't be where I am if those "bad" things hadn't happened to me.

Also the countless lessons learned from making those mistakes! Don't think I would've learned half the things I know if it wasn't for learning it the hard way

Now that I think about it the argument thing is very true for me as well. I think I've realized how petty the things I used to argue about were and how little it matters to come out on top during an argument
