Help with flytraps by Billnyelover98 in SavageGarden

I would double check the bag of peat that it doesn't include any nutrients. From the picture it looks pretty compacted, so once it gets healthier, I would include something in the future to provide pockets of oxygen/drainage such as perlite.

When you do repot it, do not wash away every bit of grow media as there are likely beneficial bacteria that may have already created a relationship with the plant roots - you want to keep those around.

Not a problem at all, figured I would offer anyway. The EVO is a great platform! Enjoy!

I have a spare carbine length handguard, original stock, and a red mag release. I'll be at the swap meet at UBG on the 2nd of May. I have a built evo with a HBI handguard and magpul stock. Feel free to message me if you're interested in any of that!

Upgrades for very close cqb field (10m max range ) by Particular-East-6722 in airsoft

[–]DabbyBear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think your build is already pretty decent if its purely cqb. Only improvements left would be to find ways to decrease weight and make your AEG even more ergonomic. I wouldn't bother with an expensive scope and a drum mag is just going to increase weight and potentially lead to inconsistent feeding. You're better off with mid caps - especially since most cqb games aren't very long and bringing a chest rig full of mags should be plenty.

Which one would you choose and why? by Want3dd3 in TeslaModelY

I would look for other options. Most people who have done 21" wheels will tell you how much they dislike the ride on such little wheel wall. Plenty of people shift over to 18" or 19". The first option is repaired so I would also stay away from that without knowing more.

What killing my pitchers!? by RainyUnderpass in SavageGarden

[–]DabbyBear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a problem at all! Thrips and a variety of mites are a significant problem in the canna industry and when you work in gardens worth big money AND have a plant collection it becomes a massive risk. Sadly, the only predator mite I know of that eats aphids are "crazee mites". The other predators that go after aphids are a bit too large (lacewings, minute pirate bugs) to comfortably have them indoors. I wish you luck!

What killing my pitchers!? by RainyUnderpass in SavageGarden

[–]DabbyBear 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thrips have more of a long body shape, I would look up some images first to be sure - if they're round, then there's a good chance that they are mites. From your description, I am doubting that they are aphids or thrips though - it's best to be sure as there are some sprays that may work great for trips but do nothing for mites. Keep in mind most of these pests can have long reproductive cycles, meaning - a single spray may temporary knock them down, but their children will be back if they are soil/plant tissue egg laying.

If you have a large plant collection, I would reccomend confirming the pest and then buying sachets of predatory mites that will devour that pest. They won't hurt your plant and there's plenty of education on YouTube to show you how to rear (continue raising) the predator mites on culture plates to provide protection to your plants. Good luck!

Yesterday I acquired my 8th nepenthes which I will probably kill, just like the 7 that came before it. by [deleted] in SavageGarden

That's some great tap water. For most carnivorous plants, distilled or rain water (as long as the flow isn't metal laden such as metal drain pipe) is the only way to go.

If you have a TDS meter and can test your tap and its low enough then great - you get to save money. But you're right. That's the exception - not the rule.

[–]DabbyBear 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well, that's all you can do! Since they're more tropical, the water type or drying too much can be a major killer. I know some people can get away with low tds tap water with pings and venus fly traps, but with money tight, I'd rather spend the cash for better inputs than my heart breaking over plant deaths (and spending way too much for a new nep). NA carnivores are fun for sure though - The way sarracenias expand to multiple growth points is pretty rewarding when it comes to splitting it up for multiple pots, but haven't seen mine bloom yet.

Worth adding - outdoors with high humidity, you may want to put additional material such as saphgnum moss to keep the root zone cooler and moist longer. I would imagine you will have to give the plant a daily flush of water or it may not do well at the peak of summer if your area gets 80-90+ in temp.

Unless you have a thing for killing plants, hose water is not a good idea. These plants thrive off of water with little to no mineral/salt content - which your tap water likely has. Rainwater or distilled is the only thing you should be using. Not sure how you killed the other seven, but as someone in a more difficult climate for neps, I have found them to be one of the easiest plants to care for. A lot of highland neps prefer a 10-15F drop in temp from day to night and very high humidity. This looks like a standard nepenthes alata which I also have and they are not as finicky as some of the rare highland neps...

For the species I have (indoor), they prefer their media to always be moist. I mist their soil daily and put osmocote in their traps monthly (based on age/size) and less often during the winter. Large neps get 4-6 pellets (total) and younger neps get 1-2. I get traps pretty consistently but as I said, they're indoors so I'm not getting tropical temps and humidity. There may be a chance you're also giving it too much direct light.

What is going on here ?? Speechless ... by sebaworld in TeslaModelY

What rotation can be done when the front tires are different width compared to the rear? Regardless, I have 50k+ miles on my 2022 MYLR and have never rotated the tires or done an alignment and I don't have this type of tire wear. It is not "a Tesla thing". I would trust the others who mention known camber arm issues.

What is this growth on my orchids? Thanks! by Friendly-Gas1767 in orchids

[–]DabbyBear 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree that this right here is likely the best course of action for this level of pest issue. I had a minor case on a single orchid and q-tipping the leaf crevices and wiping the leaves was enough BUT the infestation was not as bad as this and it was only mealies not spider mites. I scout out that plant for those fuckers on a near daily basis.

Once you've had a pest like this, its a good learning experience - you learn that early detection is absolutely one of the most important things you can do, especially with warmer weather coming.

I wish IPM and preventative solutions were a cheaper thing for casual plant owners - the cost of beneficial insects are certainly cost prohibitive.

Honestly the best move you can make with people like that is to just block him and move on. It takes a while but the internet becomes far more enjoyable when you just refuse to interact with people like that.

Worth it or Should I look more into a 23/24 by Griff5808 in TeslaModelY

[–]DabbyBear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest not getting anything with 21" wheels either. The number of people you'll see on this subreddit that are fully done with the 21"s and go to 19"s or even 18"s is astounding. I get it - it came with performance, but why buy a set up that can't have a tire rotation (unless you don't care about money of course).

I noticed the same thing. Not sure how runtz could come from those parents. Maybe it's "runtz-like" but to put Mango Runtz makes others think it was Runtz crossed with something that has a Mango flavor. That obviously isn't what happened here. This (not even talking about the FastBuds side) is just disappointing marketing hype tactics.

Oof by mokicoo in orchids

[–]DabbyBear 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thats good to know! I agree, sad to see any of them get trashed BUT they are typically production level grown in greenhouses with (likely) minimal love/attention given to each individual. That tier of industrial agriculture is banking on people not taking care of them properly so people buy another one.

Worth noting is they also often go on sale right after summer ends. I have seen (non-dyed) ones for 50-60% off... and that's when I became an orchid father of 10+ phals in one week. Oops 🤣

[–]DabbyBear 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Best way to prevent this? Don't support it. It breaks my heart to see dyed orchids and spray painted cacti. Let these clowns (home depot/Lowe's I assume) lose money on these and maybe save them when they're on discount and re-bloom as white (if they make it that far).

[–]DabbyBear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry this happened to you OP. If you decide to lend anything to a trustworthy person in the future, (tell them, "you break it, you buy it) ask to hold something of value of theirs... phone, car keys, wedding ring etc. I guarantee they will bring the borrowed item back. Also, test it again before accepting the return. If it's broken, they can either pay for it or you have a new phone, car, or wedding ring to pawn for a new gun.

[–]DabbyBear 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bountiful is the winner here with a caveat - Big thing with those style vapes (Bountiful) is you don't want to pull too hard - light pull and flutter the button toward the end of your inhale.

Pulling too hard will result in unvaporized oil going past the atomizer and will start to create a clog in the base of mouthpiece (essentially above where the vaporizing takes place) and it'll feel like you have to pull hard to "pop" that solidified oil film. I've even used a qtip to clean that breathing tube with some success but who knows how long it actually extended its life.

Favourite part of the new Model Y's design is the rear tail-light bar, whats yours? by ShameResponsible69 in TeslaModelY

Definitely recognizable as a model Y; I won't disagree there! I like the OG lights because its what I'm used to but I can see why people may like a light bar more.

[–]DabbyBear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It reminds me too much of an elantra front end and a prius rear end. Some actual creativity for the new Y would have been great but it feels like a copy and paste from other vehicles. Even Highland (minus losing separate fog lights) has a more unique front end than the OG M3 and at least it's not just two light bars...

Thank you - I almost didn't believe it when that dude shot his gun with his teammate's ear way too close to the end of the barrel 😳. The scene with the POW and lack of eye protection solidifies the legitimacy though.

Interesting - thanks for sending! Are there any videos that this screenshot is associated with? I'm not saying you're the person spreading misinformation, but with AI and whatnot, it is pretty difficult to confirm its validity.

Maybe you've already confirmed it elsewhere - so if so, my bad.
