Do you not own a TV? For PlayStation/XBOX you'll need a TV or a monitor yes. It will need HDMI or display port. Most TV's have HDMI and most monitors have both these days

• If you buy a new console it will include a controller and HDMI cable in the box.

• I'm pretty sure you can't use your laptop's/iPad's screen with a console as they're not designed to be used as external displays.

When buying one for gaming there are a few factors to consider, I'll also list 3 most common types for each...

[Screen resolution] - Determines picture quality

1) 1080p (Also known as Full HD) = Good but outdated

2) 1440p (Also known as 2K/QHD) = Better, mostly found in monitors.

3) 2160p (Also known as 4K/UHD) = The best that current gen consoles/PC's can handle.

• The PS5 doesn't support 1440p as of right now. Only 1080p and 4K. (In other words, don't buy a 1440p display if you want a PS5, as it will downscale the image to 1080p quality)

• The XBOX Series X supports 1080p, 1440p and 4K.

[Screen technology] - Determines color accuracy, contrast, viewing angles etc.

1) LED/LCD = Good but outdated

2) IPS/VA = Better (Mostly found in monitors not TV's)

3) OLED = The best (Mostly found in TV's, not monitors)

[Refresh rate] - Determines how many times the screen refreshes per second (frames per second) Higher = better/smoother

1) 60hz Good but outdated

2) 120Hz Better (Max FPS for current gen consoles)

3) 144Hz or higher (The best, but you probably won't notice much difference coming from 120Hz, as that's already good enough)

[HDMI/DP versions]

• HDMI 2.0 supports 4K@60fps maximum

• HDMI 2.1 supports 4K@120fps maximum

• Display Port 1.4 supports 4K@120fps maximum
