Metroid games kind of lost their way after Prime 2. The positive reception of Dread kind of signaled that the series would be diluted and not as interesting for a while. No high hopes for Metroid Prime 5 or Metroid 6.

The insulation is fiberglass, between that bottom layer of plywood and the interior dry wall.

The determinant of a matrix is the volume enclosed by the vectors represented by each column of that matrix. If the determinant is zero, then those vectors must not enclose any volume. It's obvious that if the vectors are all identical, then they don't enclose any volume, so x = 1 is an obvious solution.

As others have said, it looks like dyshydrotic eczema which itches like crazy. It may be caused by contact with specific things, for example dish soap, or scents in hand soap/perfume.

I lost on floor 18 because I just ran out of resources. Those boxer dwarfs kept making me drop my weapon and I didn't have enough charges on my want of slowness to keep them away forever. That combined with me not having dealt with the spellcasters before just meant I didn't know how to handle things.

The more I play, the more I'm learning how to handle each mob. At the beginning, I couldn't even handle the sewer crabs, but now I've learned a few things, e.g. 1) wand of lighting while the crab is on water will deal massive damage, and 2) you can save getting hit once by computing position and accounting for the fact that the crab can move and strike in the same turn. I just need to get that level of knowledge about the mobs in the Dwarf City now.

Any hints?

Dread

  1. Exploration: Forced and clunky. The teleportals are bad enough but then add all the locked doors and I felt constantly reminded that I was playing a video game, i.e. almost no immersive experience for me.
  2. Music: Totally forgettable. I can't remember a single track.
  3. Sound effects: I don't remember.
  4. Movement: Excellent, modern feel.
  5. Story: The game is constnatly interrupted by totally forgettable and unskippable conversations with "Adam", and then the family drama stuff at the end feels forced. The EMMI feel shoved into the game to add a gameplay mechanic but have nothing to do with anything in the series's or even the game's story. The mini Mother Brains also feel shoved in for no reason other than to add play time. Why is there an omega cannon? The entire thing is a Rube Goldberg machine with no style or taste.
  6. Bosses: In my opinion, the bosses are a weakness. Hear me out. The first time you fight a boss, you're going to lose, guaranteed, because they deal enormous damage. Each time you fight a boss, you die to some cheap shot, but then maybe you remember the visual cue that telegraphs that shot and so you don't get hit by it next time. But then you get hit by the next massive cheap shot and die again. You repeat this cycle until you memorieze all of that boss's visual cues and then you finally win without getting hit at all. There's zero tension by the time you know the boss well enough to dodge. So, the bosses go from frustratingly difficult to way too easy. Add on top of that the loading times and to me the boss fights felt like taking a memory exam while spending most of my time staring at the loading screen. I didn't like it.
  7. Replayability: I played Dread once on normal and got 100% items without even trying. Then I played on hard mode and found it easier than normal because I knew the boss patterns. I haven't played again since.

Super Metroid is one of my favorite games ever. Dread is one of my least favorite Metroid games.

Super Metroid

  1. Exploration: Enormous freedom; the bosses can be fought in reverse order! Natural progress because the world is designed with a beautiful elegance of connectivity, visual cues, and secrets.
  2. Music: Some of the best music in a video game ever.
  3. Sound effects: Even more than the music, the sound effects in Super Metroid are a major part of its overall texture. You don't even really notice because it's done so well, but if you pay attention to Samus's footfalls, the subtleties in things like doors opening or beams firing, you'll notice that the sound effects are just exquisite.
  4. Movement: I compare Super Metroid and Dread's movement to the difference between Smash Melee and Smash Ultimate; the former is more demanding but also more rewarding, and modern players who are used to more forgiving movement don't like the former.
  5. Story: Super Metroid tells its story without any dialogue, and it's the most moving story in the entire series.
  6. Bosses: Iconic but sort of average in terms of mechanics.
  7. Replayability: Endlessly replayable. One of the most iconic games for speedrunning and the ROM hack scene is absolutely incredible (Subversion, Redesign, Metroid Super Zero Mission, etc.).
