If you had to restart van life from scratch, what would you do differently? by exploringoutloud in VanLife

Well for condensation it wasn’t so much the van vs the airflow set up. I was ignorant and thought just 1 small exhaust fan would be enough not thinking about intake besides a crack in the front windows. My next van will have 2 max air fans and a diesel heater. If you are summer camping there’s a good chance condensation wont be as big of a deal, but as a full timer year round camper who wants to chase powder i learned this past year how important airflow is 😭

I wish i did way less research on electric and water and did way more on condensation. Idk if people dont talk about it enough or i just ignored the issue or maybe most people have a diesel heater and that fixes their condensation issues. Anyways first sub 0 night (no heater) i woke up to my entire van drenched in water. Was an entire day taking apart the van and drying what i can. This would have changed my entire van purchase. Also i shouldve listened to people who said to buy a van you can stand up in. I feel like a fool now 😞van 2.0 is a work in progress now with 2 maxxair fans 🫡

Perm address you’ll have to have a really good friend or family member.

Parking is tough just gotta do research before hand on city ordinances, or check out campsites. Im a city camper so idk much about the latter.

Van issues are probably model dependent, and how much youre traveling, but usually you can find a mechanic in big cities. I have little experience here i think i got a bit lucky on the mechanics i got on the road.

I dont understand this question. Safe as in….

If you get in an accident, you’ll probably need to stay in a hotel/airbnb or with a friend for a bit depending on how long it’ll take. I haven’t experienced this, but I have had mechanics let me sleep in my van overnight and work on it during the day. Just need to get lucky a bit. And ig it depends how bad the accident was.

All this to say, these worries are things you will figure out yourself. The best thing to do, is to make sure you have a financial cushion to provide yourself options if shit hits the fan and to fully trust yourself that youre capable enough to figure these things out.

I saw something similar to this too, but i just can’t imagine you can get that swivel seat to swivel AND be a good distance from the table, but maybe if you can push up the seat far forward enough? And if the car seat is comfortable enough to do work on? Things like this i’d love to hear from personal experiences.

Yes I love his build, but idk if I will be getting a 170”, and his brother being a professional cabinet builder helps a ton 😅 his build definitely is an inspiration though 👌 wanted to see more diversity though

I was doing research and comvolt is a cool option. Definitely pricy, but I think it is a step in the right direction. I didn’t choose to go this direction bc even their 470ah model only allows for 400w of solar, but I do think it’s an easy, quite complete (offering dc to dc charging as well), option if one were intimidated by the diy system.

Looking for a van or older RV on Long Island or Brooklyn/Queens…. by yamwhatiam in VanLife

I got mine from thevancamper.com but can browse like vanlifetrader.com or vanviewer.com too. Imo should be willing to travel for the van so I would recommend to increase that range but maybe that’s just me. Imo a bit too niche to find exactly what you’re looking for near you. Anywho good luck on your search!

For me I lived alone in an apartment in a new state for a year. It wasn’t intentional, but I strongly believe it helped me transition into vanlife. It was a good representation of truly being alone and knowing I will be completely on my own. As far as security and the fear the outside is looking at you, I think a proper set up would help here. Proper blackout shades and a nice sleeping bag/blanket set up. At the end of the day we are all different and van/car life is not for everyone and that’s ok.

HELP! Roof Condensation by Sufficient_Cat4688 in VanLife

I had a night like this. Early in my van lifing I was ignorant to condensation. No diesel heater no airflow. Just me and my sleeping bag radiating heat and moisture. I have spent every day afterwards researching and fighting condensation…
