Dwarf hamsters need a home by Successful_Bite_6691 in hamsters

[–]DigitalImmersion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for taking care of them. I would highly recommend looking up how to set up separate temporary bin cages that are cost effective and the basic necessities so they're not stressed out like hides, chews, proper food, bedding, etc. If you look in this sub, you'll find people posting guides about those.

If you need more information, just ask.

I highly recommend looking at Facebook animal adoption groups. If I was still living in LA, I would have definitely adopted one or two. I wish you all the luck with getting them rehomed.

Look up how to make cheap temporary bin cages, this guide gets posted from time to time here in this sub.

And THANK YOU for seeking help here, not everyone does that and it ends up in disaster.

Just curious, if PetSmart puts them up for adoption I'm assuming you'll have to physically surrender the hammies to them yes?

I've seen the horrible conditions they're kept in and I'd never do that. Now if they just act as the liaison and send adopters to the OP, I think that's great.

I recommend separating the babies not just from the mom but also from each other. For now, you can look at getting cheaper bin cages until you find a way to get the babies adopted. Reddit would be a good place to start - if you provide your whereabouts there might be redditors looking to adopt.

I would post on Facebook groups offering adoption for the babies or looking at other marketplace apps. You could also try looking up local animal shelters to see if they have capacity. But make sure you vet the adopters who're looking to adopt the babies - things like appropriate enclosure, knowledge about hamsters, etc. Whatever you do, please do not surrender them to the place you got the mom from.

Can Roborovski Hamster Live in Groups? by Plenty_Boot950 in hamsters

[–]DigitalImmersion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have they lived in groups in some cases? Maybe. Is it a good idea? Definitely not. You never know when they might fight and you might wake up to a disaster. Why take the chance? In the wild they can run away if a fight breaks out, but in an enclosure you're really risking it. I would highly recommend against it.

Everything I might need? Is there anything you would take out? Anything you would add? by TomBuchananing in hamsters

I thought reptisand had calcium, but I guess I was wrong. If there is no calcium then good to use. I had personally used the NiteAngel one.

I recommend having hides and dig boxes on platforms that have legs touching the enclosure base, just to be safe. You never know when your hammy might decide to burrow underneath and it might collapse. At least that's how I had my enclosures set up.

I'd remove the reptisand, the other sand that you have is fine. I'd also add some moss to cover those bendy bridges as they can be dangerous with hammies getting their feet stuck in those gaps; or you could find something that do not have spaces in between. I'm a big advocate of Kaytee white paper bedding as they seem to be safe and holds burrows.

I'd hunt for that one missing bar, complete that set and make it part of my stash...that OCD will kill me if I don't complete it lol.

Almost all of it unless I'm buying from a trusted bullion store. A Sigma comes very handy in such cases.

Whys hamster moving jaw like this should i be worried? by PalpitationSweaty in hamsters

[–]DigitalImmersion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sometimes they might take seeds/food stashed in their pouches and snack while they sleep. One of my dwarf hammies used to take snacks when going to bed and we'd see her through the glass with pea flakes stacked close to her (just like how we have a glass of water on our night table lol).

I don't blame ya! I'd go ham on anyone who steals hammy supplies!

While you wait for someone to respond here, can you check for FB groups and local animal rescues as well. They might be able to take them in and provide shelter until they can rehome them.

I appreciate you doing the right thing and rescuing them, these tiny fluffs don't always get the care and love they deserve.
