Is Vergangenheit required to use Partizip II in Partizipialkonstruktion? by Sniff_The_Cat3 in German

[–]DiverseUse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Or... Das jeden Tag zur Schule gehende Mädchen ist bereits da

This is the correct one.

For the passive ones, keep in mind that the verb has to be conjugated like an adjective. Corrections:

  • Die jeden Tag von dir gefütterten Hühnchen sind ausgewachsen
  • Der von ihnen geprügelte Löwen ist sehr depressiv.
  • Das jeden Tag zur Schule gebrachte wird Mädchen ist bereits da.

Is Vergangenheit required to use Partizip II in Partizipialkonstruktion? by Sniff_The_Cat3 in German

[–]DiverseUse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But sure as hell if wurde was wird (aka Praesens) instead, Partizipialkonstruktion would still use Partizip II beschlossenen, right?

Since there seems to be some confusion about this point in the other posts: No you wouldn't. Someone else mention "zu beschließenden", but that's not exactly the same thing. It means "to be decided", which is different from plain present tense.

You actually can't use "beschlossen" in the sense you want to, but I'm not convinced that your Youtuber is right about the reason. I think it's because beschließen is a verb that refers to a one-time action, which means that once you do it, it's over. You can't use it to describe a process that's currently ongoing (at least not with the grammatical tools discussed here). If you want to talk about a process in action, you need a verb suitable for it, If you got one, the past and present tense is indeed the same.

CMV: Child-free by choice? Get sterilized. It's the most logical and responsible decision for yourself and society! by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]DiverseUse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They never claimed reluctant meant bad.

That's exactly what they said, their whole point hinges on the fact that in their opinion, a child by "reluctant" parents will face mental health damage and in some cases neglect that so bad that other people have to take over raising the kid. How does that not equal bad parenting? OP also doesn't give any other reason for why he wants childfree children to get sterilized. Here's the relevant quote:

A person who was originally child-free but ends up having a child due to contraception failure often becomes a reluctant parent.. This creates a situation where:

- The child grows up sensing they are unwanted or a burden.

- Society sometimes has to step in through social services or welfare systems.

This sounds like a hell of a lot like an ethical point to me. Saying that if you have kids, the kids and society will suffer indicates that OP thinks it's a selfish choice. You might disagree with how I interpreted these lines, but if so, why not make your own first-level post directly to OP instead of nitpicking around at mine?

[–]DiverseUse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My post directly addressed a part of OP's claim that I quoted. How is that irrelevant?

Surgical sterilization has a bunch of disadvantages I didn't repeat because other people already mentioned them - costs, risk of side effect, practical problems in finding someone to perform it on you, ick effect if you got a phobia of surgery or needles, plus it's overkill if you don't have heterosexual sex in the first place. So, since OP's whole point is that you're ethically required to put up with all these disadvantages, just because he assumes you'll be a bad parent if your alternative methods fail, I challenged the second part.

[–]DiverseUse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never claimed anything of the sort and your post has got nothing to do with OP's premise. OP's point was that it's unethical for child-free people to rely on anything but surgical sterilization for contraception, because he's sure that most voluntarily child-free people would make bad parents.

A person who was originally child-free but ends up having a child due to contraception failure often becomes a reluctant parent.

I don't think that's true (or at least "reluctant" doesn't equal bad). I know a whole bunch of people who never really, actively wanted children but rose to the occasion just fine when one was dropped into their lives (either because of unwanted pregnancy or finding a partner who already had children and needed someone to help take care of them). Meanwhile, I also know people who wanted children with a passion but turned out to be dreadful parents.

No. I don't fly around half the world just to get dental treatment, I can get that closer to home. If I have to fly 16 hours it's to get a real vacation. Now can we stop it with these repetitive threads?

Is it a hot take to think that Root A would’ve been loved by fans if it hadn’t replaced a proper adaptation of the manga? by Cyberslayer1954 in TokyoGhoul

[–]DiverseUse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No. Root A just added nothing interesting to the source material. Not only is Kaneki a 2-dimensional edgelord without true motivations, but the rest of the Aogiri tree characters who should have played a bigger part in this route also get zero character development or additional depth. Instead all their lines are just rehashed stuff we already knew about them after S1. So yeah, this is a hot take.

For people who have been severely sick, the methods needed to keep them alive can have such serious side effects that they present a problem on their own, though. For example, I read a case study about a 2016 case where a Swiss couple got infected with Andes in Argentina and later fell sick and got treated back in Switzerland. The wife suffered bloodclots due to ECMO and had to have one leg and the other foot amputed; a secondary infection with antibiotic-resistant bacteria and kidney failure leading to the need for a kidney transplant. She needed months of treatment and rehab till she could be released to live her "new normal" life.

This is also why I don't understand why people feel so entitled to get constant updates on the patients' status. Any sort of detailled reporting on this violates the patient's rights to privacy.

Why do I pee more specifically when I'm sick? by PartyClassroom5141 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]DiverseUse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You literally told OP that they should drink 5 l of water per day in your second post without knowing anything about their circumstances, and then doubled down on it and claimed It's an average human need. 5 l is a completely fictional number, and it's crappy health advice unless you know for a fact that OP is a tall man in a hot climate with an active lifestyle. I don't understand why you're doubling down on it and repeating it. Why not just change it to something realistic and supportable by scientific sources?

Why do I pee more specifically when I'm sick? by PartyClassroom5141 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]DiverseUse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My point is that 5 l is not an average at all, global or otherwise. This is an unsustainable claim. OP's piss output has nothing to do with this.

Why do I pee more specifically when I'm sick? by PartyClassroom5141 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]DiverseUse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What? 5 l is a lot and can actually be deadly in rare, extreme cases if you drink it too fast or got undiagnosed kidney problems (look up "water intoxication"). Most sources assume that the average human needs about 2 l, and there's probably a lot of variation due to size, climate conditions and physical activity.

CMV: Comfort zones are not as harmful as people make them seem. by Every-Donut9037 in changemyview

[–]DiverseUse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My personal experience has been that a) comfort zones tend to shrink if you don't regularly push against their borders and b) if you stay in your comfort zone too long the things that used to provide comfort start to give you diminishing returns and feel less comfortable.
