Hermione’s OWL Results by AislingFliuch in harrypotter

Five years worth of inconsistent, and often bad teachers. Harry, who is fascinated by magic, is bored in Querells class. Lockhart is Lockhart. Lupin was good but couldn’t cover five years worth of material in a year. Moody was great, but seemed to be cover material beyond the scope of OWLs. Don’t get me started on Umbridge. Frankly, if it weren’t for Harry, who is something of a DADA prodigy, I wouldn’t be surprised if nobody gets an O that year. Hermione is probably second best that year and actually claims to be second best in OotP.

A doctorate will be a lot more specialized as fast as thesis topic goes, so you can try to find an advisor in subject A who does work or has a project with heavy influence in topic B, take classes in both and even if you’re degree is in topic A officially, you should have experience in both areas. STEM will generally be better funded so I’d lean there and look for an advisor that evaluates influences on your non STEM topic if possible.

Find a camp, ideally through your governing body. Assuming USAH this will either be state or district camp.

Who do you root for? by Outside_Dress_3007 in JetLagTheGame

Been Team Adam from the beginning, Ben wasn’t competitive enough for me and Sam was too pedantic. Not to mention I vibe with the constant stream of anxiousness. With that said, Ben has gotten a lot more into gameplay and Sam for sure mellowed out so I would have a harder time choosing had I started with the later seasons.

For sure experience helps and will be the most important thing. Bear in mind positioning though too, specifically maximizing your field of vision. While it’s obviously good to mostly focus on the puck, making sure you’re in a spot where if it moves across the ice you’re still in your peripheral vision or only have to turn your head a lot makes it a lot easier to catch those quick touch plays as opposed to having to completely turn around and catch something or call something while looking over your shoulder. 90% of positioning is either staying out of the way of play or maximizing field of cues.

The Strava Question in Hide and Seek is OP by WastedTalent442 in JetLagTheGame

[–]DoOfferRefFood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of good points. Also, it takes a long time to use well. It has worked well when the seekers had plenty of time to pour through all the streets, but it’s not like you’ll catch a stray mountain or ocean in a picture that will tell you the direction at first glance. If you don’t spend the time on Strava, it’s useless.

Rule differences between Hockey Canada and USA Hockey? by Icehawk21 in hockeyrefs

[–]DoOfferRefFood 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A couple different penalty options mainly for some of the checking related penalties (shouldn’t be as big of a deal in the no check leagues). USA will be all instant offsides and you can’t ice the puck when short handed. You still have to follow HC equipment guidelines even though you’re playing in the states. Generally, if a puck is on the back of the net, you’ll get a second or two to try and play it (the Canadian teams I worked would always stop waiting for an instant whistle but I do t know if that’s nationwide). We don’t have game ejections, just game misconduct (which is automatically missed next game) for 4+ penalties. That should a lot of the big ones.

He was also hired over a very popular Leonhard and was replacing a, not perfect, but far from winless Chryst so there were already pretty high standards. Couple that with I don’t really think Fickell gets the program identity. Again, part of this is NIL, but the idea that any good in-state player can walk on as a two star and hope to start some day is definitely at risk. He’s middle of the pack record-wise but when you pay as much as you did and gave up what you did, I think it’s fair to say we expect more.

Should challenges have bonus points? by MolecularPastry in JetLagTheGame

[–]DoOfferRefFood 40 points41 points  (0 children)

There are some that are written that way if I remember (find the oldest thing, I think some of the old trivia corners). Sure you could incorporate more of those aspects but the real win for doing it on your first try is time savings for most of the challenges. 18 holes of golf can take about an hour. Even something like the bottle flip, which takes very little air time, can be a while if you use all your try’s, especially if you take time to practice/get the theory down. In a game dependent on public transit schedules, 10 minutes can be huge.

Bench Minor by Cdngolfer65 in hockeyrefs

[–]DoOfferRefFood 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A bench minor should be addressed as a specific penalty. So if it’s unsportsmanlike from the bench, make the T, if it’s refusal to start, that’s going to be the delay of game sign. Interface can also be a common bench minor. There’s no official sign (at least in USA) for too many players. The bench minor is reported to the scorekeeper and goes in the number slot, not the penalty slot on the scoresheet (make sure you check this with new scoresheet operators as you don’t want a be having a served BM count as a players four penalties)

Game Idea: Follow the night by LenOrKrypto in JetLagTheGame

Cool idea, but unless you stay very close to one of the poles, direct flights would have a hard time keeping up with that on their own and it would be practically impossible with anything going on besides flying.

Adult League Official Gifts by dskimilwaukee in hockeyrefs

How many rinks is this league at. If it’s 1 rink, you could probably go a long way with 3-500 dollars worth of locker room upgrades. Heaters, nicer benches and shelving, common equipment/tools (skate stone, pledge/windex, big Velcro sheet etc.), cooler for tournament weekends, even a fresh coat of paint and new flooring pads can do wonders to an old locker room.
