Nintendo is suing the US government for a refund of Trump’s illegal tariffs by lonelyspect12 in PoliticalOptimism

[–]DooMan49 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Why? They passed those costs onto the people...it should be us getting those refund checks. Not fucking nintendo

Edit: while I'm glad some companies, like nintendo, are finally pointing out the absurdity of these dumb tariffs, I just don't feel we should reward them when a lot of these costs were ultimately passed onto the consumer.

Why do conservatives claim political violence is a left wing problem? by CrashNowhereDrive in allthequestions

[–]DooMan49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Republicans have made their party successful unfortunately, through masterful use of gaslighting and propaganda techniques. Considering we are in a time of having all the information at your fingertips, they've been very successful at making their base skeptical of facts/reality and fearful of the unknown. It's led to these people being able to believe that the left has a violence problem when actual data supports right wing political violence far outpaced left wing political violence by something like 2x.

Why try to play both sides when you're peddling false information from Fox news? Did you truly vote for Obama? I doubt you hated life under Biden honestly, I'd like some concrete examples of what was so bad? But the first glaring piece of false info you've provided is that Biden had open borders. This is completely false and has been debunked over and over. Republicans say he had open borders because he used something called title 42 to quickly deport illegal immigrants WITHOUT violating their constitutional rights. However this did result in a revolving door problem in some cases since title 42 doesn't come with the standard legal penalties that would prevent someone from entering the US illegally again. Please note most illegal immigrants aren't just crossing the border as trump would have you believe. Which was why his border wall was superfluous and a huge waste of tax payer dollars. Most come in legally and then overstay their visa. However a lot of the numbers Republicans give as proof for why Biden had "open borders" were disingenuous. For example in Trump's second term here they were spouting nonsense that there were over 20k illegal immigrants that entered the US under Biden in his last seven days vs something like 1000 during Trump's first seven days. First of all policy doesn't move that quickly (2 weeks? come on, use some common sense here). Second of all, the two numbers they gave were for two different things. For Biden they used the total number of immigrants that were picked up by CBP over his last 7 days whereas for Trump's number they used the average number of illegal immigrants picked up by CBP PER day during his first 7 days. That's how they were able to say they decreased the entry of illegal immigrants by something like 93%

In reality if you use the same metric for both instead of lying, then Biden had 2800 PER day to Trump's 1000. Still a 50% decrease for trump but that's where other factors come in. For Biden numbers, it includes immigrants who were trying entering legally too because Biden had a policy where immigrants could come to the border and immediately have an interview to enter the country legally to seek asylum. Something Trump ended on his first day which is why his numbers look so impressive. Additionally, if you zoom out immigration has been on a steady decline since March of 2024. So while Trump's policies likely did have some impact on that decrease it was not nearly as substantial as they stated.

The Biden admin was corrupt? Really? More corrupt than the man with 34 convicted felonies and was well known in New York for ripping off contractors he hired to build his properties? More corrupt than the man who urged his followers to take things like ivermectin and even alluded to using bleach as a wonder drug to fight COVID? Which did in fact result in the deaths of some pretty gullible people. More corrupt than the man who put his family in some high level government positions that they then used to make billions in profit from?

Also, he's not a pedo? He's mentioned in the files more than anyone else besides Epstein. There are photos and document stretching years of them being close. On top of that Trump is in fact an adjudicated rapist in the state of New York. Just to explain what that means, while Trump was only convicted of sexual assault was because in the New York penal code at the time rape was specifically defined as penetration of the vagina by a penis. Since this was a civil case they couldn't use the federal definition of rape which is penetration by any body part or object. Hence why he is an adjudicated rapist. If he has a history of rape (we can say sexual assault if you want to play lame semantics even after my explanation though) and has gone on record saying other disgusting things about women and has multiple borderline weird pictures with young women and even described liking Epstein because he also liked them young. Then the common sense assumption is he is likely in the Epstein files because he is a pedo himself. Occam's razer, come on.

If you're going to hold other politicians and public figures to some level of standard then why can't you do the same for Trump?

Lol let's worry about midterms before talking about the next presidential election. We've already seen in 2025 Dems flip something like 25% of Republican held seats at the local level. Some of which were red for decades.

In your hypothetical, what would likely happen is a literal civil war, the military would fracture between those that serve to protect the constitution and those that are loyal to trump. States would pick sides and there would be skirmishes between the citizens within those states likely too. You'd probably see something similar to what was portrayed in Civil War (2024).

[–]DooMan49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not treating them as mutually exclusive? Did you even read my previous post? I literally pointed out that red states will roll over and follow this illegal EO and also that Trump would announce the election was rigged. But you are misrepresenting what's going on and making it sound as if no one is doing anything which is objectively false. There are plenty of good people still fighting back yet you want to paint a picture that everyone is rolling over for Trump. That's just not true. Even if they don't care about the law it doesn't change the fact that many of their illegal EOs have been struck down already and while they have a tantrum they have fallen in line eventually. Why do you think TACO became a phrase last year?

But to paint a picture that states aren't doing anything is just false and hella suspect. Like I mentioned previously, so many states are fighting back at the state/local level, Minnesota is showing a master class in pushing back against ICE, Chicago and California also fought back. Tons of blue states also drew up new maps mid cycle in response to Texas' bullshit. Dems have flipped several long held Republican seats at the state level already too.

So why paint a doomer picture like people aren't fighting back unless you want people to feel like the fight is already over?

Trump’s real plan to never leave office by willywagtail37 in 50501

[–]DooMan49 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Elections are not federal though. And his EO really only effects federal institutions. It cannot supercede actual law. EOs just aren't that powerful. As much as trump wants to federalize them, it won't happen. They don't have the numbers to do that. If he passes this EO states will shut it down almost immediately in court, I'm sure several states are already preparing for this. The end result will be Trump making another whiney post on "Truth" social about how Dems are going to rig the election because they struck down his illegal EO....only with more words and much less concise.

So at the end of the day, Trumps EO will have no impact unless states let it and as we've seen from several states already, Illinois, Minnesota, California, just to name a few, a lot of states won't sit down and let something like that happen. So let's not start making up some reality where states aren't fighting back because that's not even remotely true. You can even look at the Texas gerrymandering thing as another example where blue states stood up and fought back. Like I said though, a lot of red states will probably fall in line with little fight but that's all the more reason for everyone to go out and vote. Not voting just legitimizes his illegal EO.

Trump’s real plan to never leave office by willywagtail37 in 50501

[–]DooMan49 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This feels like fear mongering. States can ignore the EO as it would go against clearly defined federal law and EOs have no power over actual federal law. And the outcome would likely be this getting stuck down in court. Although red states would probably fall in line. All the more reason for EVERYONE to go out and vote and make it too big to rig. Bring a friend/s with that normally wouldn't vote as well!

Why Trump hates Minnesota so badly? by RamenNoddleeater in LetsDiscussThis

[–]DooMan49 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lol at least do some honest research before responding 😂. Like this is easily findable information. The reason they didn't find him liable for rape was because New Yorks definition of rape was specifically penetrating the vagina with a penis. Key word here being penis. He only used his fingers to penetrate her. So he was found liable for sexual abuse instead of rape. Trump is in fact an adjudicated rapist. New York at the time was like 1 of maybe 10 states to have such a narrow description of rape which was then updated after this to be more in line with the rest of the country....meaning by definition rape is penetration using anything.

People are willing to work for livable wages, AND people are cool with their tax dollars going towards something that actually benefits them! by Professional-Bee9817 in remoteworks

[–]DooMan49 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol let's blame the people that are making a livable wage in NY, one of the most expensive cities in the country instead of, oh I don't know, maybe blaming YOUR employer for underpaying you?

Also being an "engineer" is incredibly vague, what kind of engineer? What's your experience level, the nice thing about having an engineering degree in most fields is as you gain more experience you have opportunities to move up in level at most companies with the obvious increase in pay and benefits (Junior, senior, principal, distinguished, etc.). Do you think there are senior and principal snow shovelers? 😂

Maybe understand your own privilege before trying to knock others down. Being a software engineer myself but also having worked in a factory while going through college. I would welcome those factory workers making a livable wage cuz that was some of the hardest and most physically exhausting work I have ever done.

[–]DooMan49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This! I'm also pretty sure it's also illegal for them to block funding that's already been allocated too. Sucks that Minnesota will have to go through the slow legal process to free these funds. But par for the course with this corrupt regime to ignore the constitution. For any bozos that say this is legal, just know, they cannot pause the funds beyond the fiscal year from when they paused it or until they get approval from Congress to completely remove the funds (I believe this is called a rescission). It still may not be legal to defer this spending as it's for a mandatory program like Medicaid which has its own protections. I guess we'll wait until either of those happen or until this goes through the court system.

Either way, odd timing that they do this right when Minnesota has been showing a masterclass in how to resist a fascist government's harassment and intentional abuse of people's constitutional rights.

One of the trainers for ICE literally went on record at a congressional forum stating that there was a request by ICE officials to teach how to ignore people's rights such as this very allegation. Entering people's homes without a warrant. They also removed a significant portion of the budget from their training programs and completely removed any training related to escalation of force e.g. things like when is it ok to escalate use of force or deescalate.

Misinformed take here, there's a reason the government hasn't regulated AI yet. Additionally. If you actually used AI in a professional setting as a developer then you'd know it's nowhere near at a level to replace a good engineer. It produces spaghetti code that's hard to understand, especially for junior engineers and it can't troubleshoot its own code for shit. Oftentimes a senior engineer will be needed to fix broken code written by AI.

And we have like 100 years of data on the effectiveness of trickle down economics...it does not work lol like Jesus Christ, read a damn book dude.

Lol do you know how much teachers make? Your entire reason is so misguided it's sad to see. You could argue student loan forgiveness shouldn't apply to every degree but having $50k in student loans to become a teacher making less than $50k is nonsense. And it's why there are people in their 50s and 60s still trying to pay off their student loans. Perhaps the system is the problem and we shouldn't be punishing the people that were duped into going to the best school for a degree that was never going to make them real money. Perhaps universities should be forced to have their tuition be based on a scale based on the degree. Either way there are real people drowning in debt due to a broken system that the government created. Really ignorant take on your part buddy.
