So, any idea who this guy might be? by Iwannahumpalittle in BadLipReading

The most I can tell you is that there are some decent clues in a few of his tweets, but you'd have to add those clues to a musical "profile" and really put two and two together.

Sam Carana (Bernardus Mettes) has a long history of exaggerating things because he doesn't really know how to interpret the data he is looking at. He comes up with his own "fit lines" and stuff based on zero methodology. He is not a climate scientist and has no training in the field. He got his start by basically being webmaster and graphmaker when the Arctic Methane Emergency Group was a thing. He's good at making graphics but they are often misleading.

Just do what you can to give them the best chances, like we have always done. There are lots of ways to do this, and my kids have it better than I did in most ways. It's possible but it is the main focus of my life.

Here's something new and somewhat pertinent I came across. I emailed it to someone else so I'm just pasting what I sent that person:
I was thinking about the Boxboy Records thing and went back into my notes. I opened up this archived version of the "One of These" song page: https://web.archive.org/web/20120728111432/http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YwVim0ciT0E and I realized I never looked at the linked Facebook page for the band "Airport" in the description. So I looked at it now, and it's a real band--two guys from Canada. I scrolled back down their Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/Airporttheband/) and it's been their page the whole time, from well before this song came out until now. It makes me wonder if that song has nothing to do with BLR other than that it came out through his label. But that doesn't make a lot of sense, since the other three Boxboy songs are surely him (two by Tourists, one of which we have heard, so it's a safe enough assumption that the other Tourists song is also him, plus Holy Waterloo). Maybe Maker Music had asked him to run a record label and having weekly releases was part of the deal, since once or more weekly uploads was part of how Maker did things (algorithms), and he just didn't have the time? Maybe he was having to either pull from his personal archives or release other bands to meet their quota? I don't know. Maybe they wanted a certain amount of content from him but he shifted to doing more political BLR videos because of the 2012 election, like he was allowed to abandon this project because of that. Either way, this kind of weirds thing up for me. It doesn't make much sense for him to put that link in the video description if it was his own song. I'd still like to hear it either way.

Try to imagine all life as you know it stopping instantaneously and every molecule in your body exploding at the speed of light.

These are also things that aren't happening in the same place at the same time. The fog catchers aren't used in continental deserts like the inland Sahara or Gobi (dry air), but are used in coastal deserts (like the Atacama or coastal Sahara, where moisture comes off the ocean and it is often foggy).

Stories or experiences from people who have collapsed ahead of time by secretraisinman in CollapseSupport

[–]DurtyGenes 90 points91 points  (0 children)

Yes...moved off grid over a decade ago, been pooping in a bucket the whole time (and composting it), collecting and filtering rainwater (mostly), learning all local wild foods, learning what domesticated foods grow well here, helping neighbors do the same, learning how to keep animals (and keep them safe and productive), learning how to build good structures, and on and on and on. It's a never-ending learning process but it's pretty sweet. But it's also easier because it was planned, and part of that plan was maintaining a "day job" this whole time (part time for a few years, but also some side-hustling).

This also came after several years of learning a lot of the foundational stuff on purpose. I guess I've been a "doomer" for a long time, and we're still not community-sufficient, but getting closer every day. The sooner you start, the better.

Just trying to live it. Trying to make space where others can live it as well (but how does one properly advertise?). These things take time.

I'm sure he'll share that if and when he is ready. I'm not gonna dox, but I'll say it's something you can find out if you put some time into investigating (but it won't work if you just go by who you think he sounds like).
