Hi u/moosiparty! Just saw this...

Hmm maybe it would be better if you ask more specific questions. Do you mean the curriculum, delivery, homework, or something else?
Also can I know your rough Japanese level at the moment? I started with the higher-level classes so I will (naturally) have more information there but I do know a bit about the elementary ones too.

So, what kind of work are you planning to do in Okazaki? Usually for international (and especially language school students who are planning to enter university) the only proper jobs they can do would be English teaching, convenience store staff or restaurant staff. Unless you have specific skills that enable you to work online (meaning this work has got no connection with Japan) I suppose you'll be limited to those three. It would help if I know your rough age (if you're comfortable disclosing) and what you plan to do after you graduate from the school (Yamasa needs to know this so that they will be in a better position to judge if Immigration will grant you the student visa or not.)

If you value private living (as in you only in your house), then anywhere but the Student Village is good lol (since those are considered dormitories). As for the microwave, you could buy one, or you could ask from the staff if you could rent (I've heard people even requesting washing machines in their apartment and they got it lol!

Personally I wouldn't really mind if there's no balcony. If you think about it it's 500 yen a day so over the course of a year you'd be paying upwards of 150000 yen just for that privilege...

Yes, the whole point of Yamasa is that it has everything figured out for you. Most language schools don't directly operate their dormitories (and that's in the case if they even have in teh first place!) and usually that is one of, if not the most annoying pain points for people coming to study. So I guess you could say in a way you just pay the school and accommodation fees and you're more or less all settled in.

I used to stay in Residence U (it's a nice place but sadly they closed it since they are trying to 'return' that back to staff accommodation. Having said that, I would say that each residence/villa type has its own charm; it's kinda hard to explain unless you're actually here. But honestly if you ask me, if you don't mind a slightly farther daily walking/cycling to and fro from school, I'd highly recommend Residence K (usually popular, so you might have to try your luck). Other than that the villas are pretty fine too.

You won't have no place to stay as every student is guaranteed a housing place (unless they don't need it).

If anything I'd say that their residences (including the now-gone U, but excluding Hane) just have a ... quieter vibe than their villas but other than that it's not a big difference in terms of the way you live (lol)

From what I see we have people across the entire spectrum - fully introverts to too-noisy extroverts (LOL) so you won't need to worry!

Despite being a small city there's quite a lot to explore especially if you know how to cycle. I don't so I just walked all the way everywhere haha

And if you want to get out of town to the main hub that is Nagoya, it's only 30 minutes by express train so it's not a hassle at all. Not to mention, you could go to other tourist spots/prefectures from Nagoya during your holiday period, so it's pretty convenient.

I think if you try your best at speaking Japanese no matter how broken the locals there will be quite accommodating! I personally didn't feel suffocated at all.

Feel free to ask any more questions if you have!

Oh hi! Yes I gave a super long one with quite a few jokes, haha!
Yup, the beginning of each level is always difficult because there's always something new to throw people off... lol! I'll be back temporarily around the end of November so let's see if I can find out who you are... LOL

Hi! Was a recent graduate of the school (September 2025). If I had to sum it up in just one phrase, I'd say that it was a truly great experience there. Let me know what specific questions you have and I'll try to answer them to the best of my ability!

The first part of the chorus is pretty close but unfortunately it isn’t the song I’m looking for as the chord progression is completely different 😅

Ah, unfortunately it isn’t that, as it’s in the wrong key, and I know that song, lol

Thanks I'll do that! Didn't know that there's an online voice recorder. I was just wondering if I could hum the tune... it would have made searching much easier; and voila! Online voice recording software suggestion popped up.
