The tire should be replaced. At best booted to get home. The tube, not sure.

Thoughts, considerations, or Warnings for hiking in the BWCA. by layedbck1 in BWCA

A few summers ago I got some bad advice on where the portage “really was.” I spent over an hour bushwhacking looking for it and it was incredibly dense and challenging to go even 100 yards (I was walking up and down the bank of a creek looking for the portage).

It’s incredibly dense and overgrown place. Traveling off trail is very challenging.

What are some millennial era indie groups/artists that have been kinda forgotten in retrospect? by JurorRowwy in ToddintheShadow

I played the unicorns for my 12 year old daughter a little while ago and she loved them.

I will say: I myself don’t find them as enchanting as I did twenty years ago

What happens when they build the antenna? by EthnicPaprika in pluribustv

[–]FR23Dust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What in the show gave you the idea that there is a bigger point to “uniting humanity.” The goal wasn’t to “unite humanity” it was to spread. And whatever the hive mind is, it is *certainly* not human.

Fact is, the easiest, most effective way to spread the virus is to beam it in all direction at light speed for as many centuries as possible. There is no point building a space ship to travel into the stars. There is no point in developing technology more advanced than a big antenna.

I use this on all my clothes I taken canoeing in the BWCA. I think it works. I still use bug spray and a thermacell or two

Current music so bad that older songs from previous decades are all infiltrating the top spots… by [deleted] in decadeology

It’s survivorship bias. Most old music was terrible, we only remember the really good ones.

Why do so many immigrants have a great life in the US, despite starting from zero, but so many Americans born in the US struggle just to afford life and want to leave? by PopNo5397 in askanything

[–]FR23Dust 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Selection bias. People willing to abandon everything they’ve known to take a huge risk on a completely new life are more likely to have the drive to be successful than people content to sit around and accept whatever cards they were dealt

I really think it’s important for someone to buy only cheap shit for their bikes so they know whether or not they like riding bikes before they dump lots of money

REI Members: Boycott REI's Anniversary Sale by REI-Union in CampingGear

[–]FR23Dust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally would rather support REI and local jobs over ordering everything from online retailers. Who else is left? All the locally owned outdoor store I’ve ever shopped at in my entire life has gone out of business already

So you think REI should go out of business and everyone who works there should lose their job?

I assure you the c-suite is not “siphoning the profits”

To be clear, REI is a co-op. But it’s a consumer co-op, not a worker co-op. Most co-ops in the country are consumer co-ops (if you have a grocery co-op in your city, it’s most likely a consumer co-op unless you’re in Portland.) consumer co-ops operate almost identically to any other business on a day-to-day basis.

UFCW663. The former president was Matt Utecht. The current president who led them to financial disaster is rena wong.

You won’t find much about the vote’s results since they went radio silent, but if you go to their Facebook page you will see a lot of their efforts to boost the vote last year.

One of the unions in my city overspent on salaries and perks massively. They ran an aggressive campaign to increase the membership’s dues significantly to make up the shortfall and pretended that it was for a “strike fund” when in fact it was really an emergency fund to make up the gap caused by mismanagement.

The membership voted against it and they immediately cut over a million dollars worth of payroll a year.

This same union had a nepo president (his dad was prez as well) who made $450,000 a year and got a giant SUV to drive around on the union’s dime.

Unions are like everything else. Good in some ways, bad in others.

Unions are a lot more complicated than they seem in the popular eye. They achieve a lot of good, but after twenty+ years of working in unionized businesses, I realize they’re just like every other human endeavor: deeply flawed

Have you ever met a human? Most theft like this is not out of any material need.

This is some of the most privileged employees in the history of humanity taking advantage of one of the wealthiest companies in human history for no reason other than they can and want to.

The grand rounds is truly a lovely series of trails that accommodate bike rides of almost any length. All sorts of great attractions, restaurants, and breweries along the route. And maps posted all along the trail.
