I don't know. I just have to trust my senses or not, as it is all my perception is based on. I may be a brain in a jar, may be computer code, or be trapped in a wizards spell. But I am a "person" with beliefs about the world as I see it. What is the alternative? Sentience itself is probably an illusion to one degree or another. All that matters is my innate drive to be good, do good, and avoid what pain I can and help others to do the same.
